Hi SSC Staff,
I just wanted to post up on how I fixed my Messenger to you and all Norton users who may be experiencing same difficulties.
First off I had done everything like downloading the net.framework and then installing the SSC I/M.
PROBLEM: I could not get the application to launch.
REASON: Norton was blocking the server from connecting.
The FIX:
1) Open Norton, make sure you are on the main window called "STATUS AND SETTING" (located on the left hand side menu). If you are not on that page, click "Status and Settings."
2) Choose the "PERSONAL FIREWALL" on the main menu screen. You will be taken to the firewall screen.
3) Click the BUTTON that says "CONFIGURE" on the right hand side. You are taken to a new screen in the Firewall section.
4) Click the 2ND TAB on top that says "PROGRAMS." A section of the window will open up with a drop down of all the program applications that are currently in use on your computer.
5) Scroll down to find the SSC Messenger icon; when you find it, in the middle you will see an arrow that indicates whether the program is blocked or permitted. CLICK THAT ARROW. Choose "PERMIT ALL".
6) Next section over called "CATEGORY" Click and choose "CHAT".
Ok, Close Norton. Open SSC I/M. Login. Ok, You should be all set now.
This can also apply to any firewall you have, but you will have to fiddle with it to find out where the programs are located in order to permit SSC I/M to pass through.
I hope this helps!! So glad to be on :)
Many Blessings,
Eve C.A.R.E.
