for me it is blackish rather than brown and it usually come a lots when
I practise deep breathings from nose to mouth afterwards
I drink a hot "lohanguo" beverages that will help loosen the gunk
and another deep brathing techniques to bring the gunk to the throat and spit it on a thick toilet paper and see what has smoking done to your lung.
by the way I smoked for 2 years and gradually decreased till about 34 days ago.
I think that was the tar due to smoking
I've been to internist and ear-nose-throat specialist this week
and both said that i am getting an allergy without giving me a clear explanation what that brown crud was
I've quit smoking for 3 weeks and i spit a blackish mucous daily, is it normal? and how long will it last.
I've got 2 panic attack after these cough which bring me back to zoloft again
I quit 3 weeks ago and I am coughing up the brownish and sometimes it is bright green and very thick mucus. I assume it is my lungs healing!!?? Thought this was apart of the quitting smoking for some!
I have had a few panick attacks too!!! I went to the Doc he gave me something to take for that. I always used to be such a laid back person. Just being patient with myself and accepting some changes and I know it is for the best.

Quitter,
Your lungs are healing and trying to rid themselves of all the damage caused by smoking. If you are still concerned, request to be referred to a specialist.
Keep persevering,
Danielle

We like to call it brown crud around here..lol. In fact, if you do a search on brown crud, you'll find a very good post with that title.
Some folks cough up crud, some don't. Think of it as a healing process...your body is getting rid of the nasty gunk it's been storing up. And of course, if it continues for too long or takes a different turn, check in with your doctor.
