Tough Weekend Ahead

Hi Mookie - Fraid I'm not as far as you...so take my advice with a grain of salt....But I usually plan an escape plan and try to stay away from the smoke. It's no accident that summer parties will come at the end of my quit...because I know that it will have to be very strong by then. You have more experience than me...but sometimes I've been pleasantly surprised that the situations I dreaded turned out well. It's often the ones that come out of left-field that hit me. Wishing you a pleasantly surprisingly good weekend! Preparing for long weekend with family and friends some are smokers and some are not. Last visit my partner had quit but I was still smoking. This time we are both Non Smokers..YEAH Yeah YEAH but these are my closest and dearest friends and family. We always party and have a great time together and I will be greatly tempted. We will be planning a huge move involving relocating and I'm sure there will be tons of laughter and plenty of alcohol. I am not a big drinker but I do like to socialize. Need some help dealing with that ole Nicodemon. I have come too far to turn back now and I surely do not want to start all over again. These first few days are hell. Hi Mookie, The non smokers tend to sit together, even in social situations. Try and sit with the non smokers. When people light up, maybe you could go to the kitchen to do some work, or go take your shower, or just sit quietly with your non smoking partner and hold hands. I like to chew on straws in the more stressful situations. Don't drink too much. Stay peaceful and in control. If the craves start to come, leave the situation for a while, meditate, go for a walk, use self talk to remind yourself how evil this addiction is. It kills and we all know it. HAVE FUN without nicotine. YOu have a long successful quit going...continue to live as a non smoker. It will be one more life experience closer to being totally free from nicotine. Mookie, you can do it. Don't see it as a tough weekend. See it as a glorious, joyful, smokefree weekend...one in which YOU are in control, not your addiction. Remember your coping mechanisms...if you get tempted, change your location, go for a walk, get your partner to help you. Print out some posts that are particularly meaningful for you and carry them with you. Then come back to us when the weekend is over and tell us how great you did!
