Anxiety

Welcome Nanner,

Anxiety is a common withdrawal symptom. This is partially due to the physical withdrawal; but also, due to our behavioural patterns. As Timbo mentioned, many smokers use cigarettes to cope with difficult emotions. It is important to learn different ways to cope with emotions - mindfulness, exercise, journaling, talking to supportive people, meditation, etc. You may also want to look into Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). CBT has the most evidence in helping people to control their anxiety and mood.  You can access free CBT programs here:  https://evolutionhealth.care. I encourage you to check it out. Also, please post in the communities and say hello there as well. Hope to see you there soon :)

Hi Nanner,
Congratulations on hitting the triple digits smoke free!   "I am still dealing with the anxiety and panic that I hadn’t dealt with prior to quitting" Actually you were dealing with it by using a cigarette to cover it up. Now you don't have that crutch to fall back on anymore since you quit. "how long until people stopped dealing with the emotional rollercoaster" Its different for each person. We all have to find new ways to accept and deal with the anxiety, panic and the unexpected events that happen in life. Its a totally new lifestyle free from the nicotine and we need to make changes in our life to carry on. A positive attitude really helps. Be proud of what you have accomplished so far Nanner. You've made it into the triple digit club!  If you have the willpower to quit smoking, you can do just about anything in life if you put your mind to it.
Stay strong.

Hi everyone, I have 100 days free from cigarettes today. I have finally got over about 99 percent of the freak physical withdrawals but I am still dealing with the anxiety and panic that I hadn’t dealt with prior to quitting. I don’t want to have to use medications as I will just wait this out if possible but wondering how long until people stopped dealing with the emotional rollercoaster. Thanks!
