Hey...I am a sophmore in high school. I get panic attacks mostly when I am in school. I don't feel like I can ever control them and they always lead to me going home. I have been very afraid to go back because I don't want to have another attack. Most kids don't understand why I am in and out all the time. Does anybody know what this is like? I am looking for some support and some ways to cope. Anybody have any advice out there??? :8o:
If you don't have this any other time, it sounds like you just have an intense fear of public speaking. Chances are you're the only one who knows that your back is twitching. Moreso, did you ever think that at your age most of your classmates are not even listening let alone notice that your voice is trembling?
I used to and still have a fear of public speaking but fortunately I graduated college so I can just avoid it now. What I used to do is practice the presentation at home while focusing on one object. Then in class just think of that object and try to imagine you are still at home.
Also make light of your presentation, you might want to have someone help you write in something funny that will make the rest of the class smile. That would make them not stare at you.
You might also ask to be the one presenting first and that way you won't be weighing your work against others which could be what's making you scared. If the guy in front of you had this really good speach and he held it together so great you might feel that you can't top it.
The best thing I can tell you is that it gets better with practice. The more presentations you give the easier it gets. If you walk in believing that this is the best work you have ever done you won't be so worried about it.
One last thing...think about what is the worst thing that could happen while you are speaking? If you ever need to stop or run out or are not able to finish you can always tell your friends you haven't been feeling well that day.
As for being nervous when the teacher calls on you...Well I hate to sound like your parents but if you know the answer you should be able to give it to the teacher right off the top of your head. If you don't study on the other hand...just say "at this time I have no idea" or just shrug your showlders.
Good luck to you and let us know how you make out.

I am in 10th grade right now and I experience panic attacks mosly when im exposed to most of the class listening to me. What happens is my fear builds up and my back twitches and my voices twitches as well, it gets pretty annoying and im sure that it is obvious to others. My back feels "exposed" to anybody that can like harm me, and it twitches, it is extremly hard to cover up. I dont know exaclty what this is, or if anybody can help, but anyones help will be greatly appreciated. Also, when im like being asked a question by the teacher and the class is quiet, my back starts up again, usually, this attack happens when im am in the process of presenting something. Thank you!!
