Help with Fear of being evaluated

Hi, Anne-Marie: Thought I had responded to this posting, but it seems to have disappeared into cyber limbo. I will call the MOT office tomorrow and see if I can get a paper extension of my G2 until 19MAR03 -- the date of my last G2 exit test. The problem seems to be that 17OCT02 was an extension from 04SEP02 (5th anniversary of the issuance of my G2). I had obtained an extension largely due to having failed twice and not being able to get a third appt before the expiry date due to the MOT strike. Anyhow to make a long story short, I guess they can only extend it once, but the agent I last tested with said I could get an extension as long as I had a G2 Exit Exam appointment set. I seem to be getting conflicting stories. This is so weird because I have actually been driving for five years without even a parking ticket(having received the full SAQ licence in February 1997). Had I stayed in Quebec instead of moving here in July 1997, I wouldn't have any problem!!! Now, it looks like I will not be able to practice Ontario-style before 19Mar03 when I will only get a temp licence when I present to the MOT desk for my test, which has been prepaid via credit card. Do you think there is a way to bend someone's ear. whose?? I don't see how I can set any practical goals at this point. Also when I try to access the Panic Center sessions and diary, it now blocks me out with message "user unknown". :quest: Thanks for this formum. At least I can vent some steam!!!!

Jiterymom in a couple of other threads wants help in setting goals related to being evaluated for a driver's license. I would ask you to consider how you might develop a treatment plan for that fear. A couple of things come to mind. First, practice being evaluated in other situations. What else could you do that could have people observing you and evaluating you? (for example, reading out loud, or speaking in front of a group are good places to start) Second, is there any way you could practice having your driving evaluated? Did you take driver training courses? Have you done "mock exams" with a professional driving trainer? I know that some trainers do that. Finally, challenge the "what if"? What is your fear? What is the worst possible thing that could happen? Is it that you would "fail" your exam? What would be so bad about that? Lots of people fail the first time, then pass the second or third time. I understand that you don't have a driving permit at the moment, but are you banned from getting a temp permit at all? I never heard of not being able to do that. Physicians typically do not report people to the authorities for panic disorder. There is no evidence that people who have panic are worse drivers. In fact, people with panic are probably more cautious and get into fewer accidents. The majority of accidents involve young men 16-24, driving too fast, or driving aggressively with possible alcohol involvement. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator
