fear about my heart

Andrea- Reading your posting makes me feel like I'm not alone. I began taking Zoloft in 1996 and felt great. In 2002 I went off the medication to see how I would do on my own. For about a year I was fine then my life got stressful and the panic started. I went back on Zoloft in January with out any problems but this round is a little different. I am still having mild panic attacks but no matter what I tell myself I am constantly worried about my heart. I get a rapid heatbeat and chest pains and I'm always worried its a heart attack. Any twinge on my left side and I get tense. It's great to know I am not the only one. Debbie

Hey Andrea. I know exactly how you are feeling. For real. I started having panic attacks in March. The first one I had i was in bed. My heart started racing, Shortness of Breath, sweating, Shaking, Nausea, and I thought I was having a Heart Attack. I am 27 years old I can' t be I told myself. My wife took me to the Emergency Room and they give me a clean bill of health. I have work the 24 holter monitor, 30 Day Event Monitor, Stress Test. They say my heart is fine. I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder without Agoraphobia in May. I also had some severe depression. After a while(Months for me) you stop thinnking about it especially after you get on meds. I have had lots of Obscessive thoughts, which I hope you don't get. Make sure to stick with your doctor and get the right meds. Talk to a Therapist. Use this site. The 12 week program seems to be real good. There are books out there too by Lucinda Bassett "From Panic to Power", "Don't Panic" R.Reid Wilson, "Triumph From Fear" Jerilyn Ross and there are many more. I am on Effexor and Ativan. I also take Seroquel at night for sleep. Keep on Keeping on. There is hope. Don't give up. You can live with this problem your really can. It is hard at first but you will make it. God Bless You in your efforts Chad

Andrea - This has been my anxiety as well. Even though doctors have given my heart an A-OK, I still feel an offbeat tick now and again which has the capability of setting off an episode. We all have a touch of erratic rhythm now and again, and although a lot of pain and pressure is centered in my chest during an episode, I am assured my heart is not the cause of it (no radiant pain into the neck or extremities etc). Follow your physician's advice and keep checking back in here for what I consider valuable advice from the Community.

Andrea, I think adding a small dosage of a benzo to the zoloft will help with your chest pain but speak to a medical professional about it but Im guessing it may do the trick.

Hi Vikki! Thank you so much for responding to my post. It is so relieving to hear of some one who has this symptom. Like you, no matter how many times I feel the same pain, each time I feel as though I will have a heart attack and die. I can't just tell myself to ignore it. Though it would be so much easier to do that! It is unreal to me how your mind can make your body feel these things. I think that that is one reason why I cannot convince myself that it is nothing. I just can't make myself believe that this is in my head even though I have had the necessary tests done on my heart to make sure that it was nothing to worry about. Do you get these pains often? I seem to get them very often throughout the day. I guess like most of us I just think that my situation is unique and unlike any one else's

Hi Andrea, I know exactly what you are going through, I worry about my heart all the time, even as I am writing this I have pains in my chest, it was freeking me out (as usual)so I decided to log on for a while to try to take my mind if it. When I was 10 I saw my dad die from a heart attack ever since then I have had this worry about my heart, It is so scarey, you think that this is it this time I am going to die, I really know how you feel, and the more we worry about it the worst the pain and panic gets. But it is so hard to break free from this type of thinking because they are reall pains we feel. I just want to let you know you are not alone in this (little comfort, I know) but knowing someone else out there goes through the same thing can take the edge off things. I wish you all the best and hope you can beat this thing, Take care Vikki 30 Scotland

I was just wondering if any one experiences the same thing as I do. I started having panic attacks about 3 months ago. My doc put me on zoloft. It has worked really well as far as the anxiety. One of my biggest symptoms with a panic attack was a fast heart rate and chest pain. It would scare me to death. I knew that I was having a heart attack. My doctor ran a couple of tests (holter monitor and echo) and said that everything looked good with my heart. Now, though, even when I'm not having an attack I will have chest pain. It's nothing severe, but it is enough to scare me terribly. I can just be sitting there and feel a pain shoot through my chest. Does any one else out there have this? I think I would feel so much better just knowing that I'm not dying or have some serious heart condition.
