I'm just on 40mg of Celexa a day. I also have Ativan to put under my tongue when I have a anxiety attack. I was loosing weight before I went on the Celexa so I think it was the anxiety and stress rather than the Celexa that caused the weight loss. My weight seems to have stablized somewhat now, probably because my anxiety levels have too. :)

Yes -- what meds are most of you guys taking if you are losing weight? I've been on Prozac for years and did gain weight shortly after taking it. I still take the Prozac because it works for my anxiety attacks. What's really strange is that I started having sleep problems a couple of years ago and my doctor has me taking Klonopin - and ever since the Klonopin -- I've lost a lot of the weight that I gained on Prozac. I think different meds affect people differently. Klonopin does NOT usually cause weight gain from what I've read about it, but Prozac and the other SSRI's -- I've read that weight gain is quite common. Remeron also I am pretty sure causes weight gain. So try a different combination of meds-- each med works differently when it comes to weight gain or loss -- and from my research -- the medicine itself does not cause you to gain weight -- it's your brain's reaction to the meds that probably causes you to eat more -- even if you don't realize it. After I gained weight on Prozac -- it didn't seem like I was eating more but when I really thought hard about it and compared what I was eating after the Prozac to what and how much I was eating before the Prozac -- I realized that I was eating a lot more. Probably because I felt a lot better once I started to take the Prozac.

Ok all of you guys losing weight I want to know what kind of meds you are on. I used to take remeron and Klonopin and Celexa and Buspar throughout the 4 years I suffered with panic. I gained about 30lbs on top of what I had already kept from having my son. So not only was I panicking but I was also depressed about my weight. I tried all kinds of diets and nothing worked. Then I got pregnant and stopped all meds. I lost 25lbs in the first two months. I walked out of the hospital weighing less than ever. And I stayed that way. Now my panic is back and I'm reluctant to take meds again because I'm affraid I will gain weight. We're talking about 40lbs here so you can see my concern.

Hi Michelle and Trish, Thank you for your replies. It brings some relief to know the weight loss is more than likely not caused by something more serious than my anxiety. I'm now on 40mg of Celexa a day and starting to feel better. My doctor has still run more tests because I've started having occassional night sweats and I'm constantly very tired. So far all the tests have come back negative so he believes it could be a side effects of the Celexa. Trish, my doctor told me jokingly that if we could find the reason behind my weight loss we could all make a lot of money! Theres so many people struggling to loose weight and here he is trying to get me to put it back on! :) I too find humour really helps in keeping things light and easier to cope with. Thank you all for your support. It really does help.

Hi Beck, I was diagnosed with anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, numerous phobias and depression in march of 2002. When i was first seen in march my wieght was 209 in may my wieght was 184. I was just seen today and my wieght is 175. How about this. i tried diets and excersize and nothing worked. LOOK AT ME NOW !!!!!!! just hope i don't gain it all back now.I know it's no laughing matter however i have found that if i try and make humor of all my problems they just don't seem as bad as i thought they were. Good luck to you and may god grab your hand and bless you in each step you take. trisha54@cox-internet.com

Hi Beck, I have lost about 5 - 10lbs, which does not sound like too much but I am only 5 3 and a bit at 115 to begin with. I know that in the begining I did eat less when feeling nausia, but I always eat normal now and still I have lost weight. I am sure that it is a combination of the change in life style and anxiety. I don't know if my metabolisum has changed and speed up or not but something has. Hang in there and be sure to continue to see your doctor. Michelle

Hi Beth, Thank you very much for you reply. :) I haven't had any problems with my appetite at all which I think increases my concern. I sometimes actually eat more when I get stressed or worried. I get worried about whether a physical/medical problem is causing the anxiety but from what I've read this is a part of anxiety.

Hi, I have lost so much weight as result of anxiety! I lost almost 20 pounds within 3 weeks. (I've since put it back on). Its actually happened to me a couple of times, whenever i have long periods of intense anxiety, i loose weight. Even if its just for a day, or an hour. I am unable to eat at all, b/c i feel so nauseous. There was a period of about 2 1/2 weeks when i could eat anything, and had to drink those nutrient milk shakes just to get basic vitamins. Losing weight was one of the most scary aspects of this. So many people thought that i'd developed an eating disorder b/c of my rapid weight loss. (I'm 5'8, and weighed only 100 lbs at one point). Do you find that you have problems with your appetite? Keep me posted! Beth

Has anyone else experienced weight loss as a part of their anxiety attacks and nervousness? I went for my second visit with my doctor, he had tested me for Thryroid problems but all came back clear. He increased my Celexa to 20mg a day and told me to come back on 4 weeks. I have lost about 15lbs over the last two months and my eating habits and exercising are no different. He said that sometimes anxiety and worry can cause weight loss but not usually this much. If I have lost more weight by the next visit he wants to run a bunch more tests. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced weight loss? Thank you in advance.
