Roller Coaster Withdrawal

for 11 år siden 0 96 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Josie, I get the same thing. I'm about 3 months in and sometimes it's still miserable, but many more days have gone by (although not necessarily recently) when I don't even think about smoking. For me I think it has to do with where I'm at in life right now, and how many stressful situations I'm in, that trigger my cravings. I don't think there's much you can do but take things day by day or just hour by hour. On the really difficult days I just focus on driving directly from work to home, get into my PJs and comfortable enough not to leave my apartment again, that way there's no way I'd even think about buying cigarettes. Whatever works for you, give it a try. Hang in there.

I am on day 30 of no cigarettes.  Nearly an entire month!  I find myself still frustrated that I have not experienced any of the benefits people report in the first few weeks.  My senses have not noticeably improved, I never had a "smokers cough" to get rid of, and worst of all... I still want to smoke...a lot (gratefully, I am a stubborn person and simply will not actually reverse any progress by buying cigarettes).
The first two weeks were near hell.  Then the cravings and perseverations dropped significantly.  I went a week and a half with ratings of "3" on my cravings graph.  This week, however, feels like weeks 1 and 2 all over again.  The thoughts are incessant.  With each thought I can feel my jaw and lips quiver as if to pucker up for a cigarette.  The positive thinking, deep breathing, and sunflower seeds that helped before have only fleeting effectiveness.  The minute a stop, the minute I think about cigarettes again.
Has anyone experienced this roller coaster?  One week has virtually no cravings and the next week is self-deprecating an infuriating!   I was so sure the subsiding cravings had hit a plateau and it was all smooth sailing from there...
Feeling defeated...
