Thank you Kiwi, sorry you were having trouble.  I think it was a bad day yesterday for the web master.

Thank you Nonic,

Longer term quitting, I was considering, not so much the shorter term and this is where the time line can vary, be different, for each individual.  Finding substitutes to replace the desire will lead you to no desire.  I wish you well and you too are doing so very well.  Keep it up!

I do think that it is possible to quit and still think about cigarettes.  However, I believe that one reaches a point of separation at which time cigarettes become a thing and not a desire.  We work at this in order to get to that place and once attained the reality of the existence of cigarettes is no more threatening than the knowledge of the existence of a cactus.  Once released from the addiction, the power of the object becomes void.

In any case, I do admire you for reaching 5 years of cessation.  As we all know that is not always an easy thing to do...

stay well

Thank you Sparky and thank you Aloha. It's been a pleasure corresponding with you over the years and having the opportunity to get to know, two remarkable people.  May you keep on keeping on and keep on truckin!

Thanks again,

Occasionally I get a thought, but just a mild thought.  Usually when I'm annoyed about something.  Nothing like in the beginning.  Plus now I can take a deep breath and that reminds me of why I quit.

I concur that smoking thoughts and desires get farther and farther apart as we practice not smoking, but I think some people continue to have smoking thoughts and desires, from time to time, throughout their lifetimes. I had a smoking thought and a craving after I had finished eating at a cafe in San Francisco over the Christmas holiday. It was so subtle an unexpected that, at first, I didn't recognize it. That told me that I still have to be careful. I cannot manage what I don't recognize and name.

I would so totally agree with you, Sticking. Can't remember the last time I actually thought about, or imagined, smoking a cigarette. I'll throw it out there to see what my smoking friends or family will say, but I haven't actually imagined it. I would guess it's something similar for you. Congrats on the upcoming five year quit anniversary! Isn't life grand?

aloha
