I'm only on my second day but this post already helped, hahaha. It helps me keep the right mindset.

I struggle because I've tried to quit so many times before, and I've told my family, friends and coworkers so many times before, that I feel the need to tone down how I feel. I feel like I have to say things like, "Well, maybe this time, hahaha!" because if I say things like, "This time I'm doing it!", everyone will roll their eyes and I won't get the kind of support I will if I'm a little timid and submissive about it.

But, whatever. ;) I'm staying strong in my mind and I've got a small, core group of people who want me to be successful so badly they support me like every time is my first try.

What I found helped me after the "active" part of the quit was behind me and the rare and unexpected urge would hit me was to simply allow it to be there.  Don't fight it, don't focus on it, don't give it any power.  Simply recognize its existence, neither good nor bad, and allow it to be there without any effect upon you.  It will pass soon.

Lainey this is a great post,  a few months ago I was reading this post and I tough some day I will need to come back and read this post.   Well the time has come for me to read this again because I've been under more stress in the last two weeks. My Mom is in a nursing home and has Alzheimer's disease  she has been in the home for three years and last week she started getting mini strokes and she is deteriorating real fast. I know it's time for her to go, she had a good life  good times and very rough times also,  she will be 90 on May 25 th.
I have three older  siblings that live out of town so I'm  the one taking care of my Mom.  My older sister and I haven't been talking much in the last couple of years.  Last week she called and we got into an arguement ,  anyway it's lot of stress lately so I went looking for Lainey's post.

So I need to be strong and not smoke .........cause the cravings are always worse under stress

Thank you Lainey for the great post..

Good topic, Lainey!  While I don't consider myself seasoned, the greatest help for me, beyond posting and reading on this site, has been renewed focus on ME.

I have immersed myself into self-help books and audios, all relating to taking control of MY life in many areas  Such authors as Brian Tracy, Dave Ramsey and Jack Canfield have been very inspiring over the past 9-months.

I am learning to think, speak and BE POSITIVE about me.  The below passage by Jack Canfield sums it up best for me:

I am worthy of love, joy and success.
I am smart and make wise choices
I am loveable and capable.
I can create anything I want.
I am able to solve any problem that comes my way.
I can handle anything that life hands me.
I have all the energy I need to do everything I want to do.
I am attracting all the right people into my life

Believing in Yourself is an Attitude
Believing in yourself is a choice. It’s an attitude you develop over time. It’s now your responsibility to take charge of your own self-concept and your beliefs. It might help to know that the latest brain research now indicates that with enough positive self-talk and positive visualization combined with the proper training, coaching, and practice, anyone can learn to do almost anything.

You must choose to believe that you can do anything you set your mind to – anything at all – because, in fact, you can!

Taking it One Day at a Time and Keeping the Quit,

Dave

Good post Lainy, I have had a lot going on in my life, but I am yet to be tested and that scares me a little. Its something I need to think about, because when things go real bad I tend to get self destructive, and what better form of self destruction than smoking. I think my biggest fear is something going south in my relationship, that would be the worst case senerio for me, that would be the ultimate challenge. Well, back to packing up...bllaaahhhhhhh..I'm beat.
