Nissala,

Stay strong! Your stats are looking amazing and you are getting close to the end of Heck Week. Here are some tips to help you through a craving:

AVOID the situation. Identify the situations when you normally smoke or feel cravings. For most, high-risk situations include work breaks, finishing meals, having coffee or being in a bar. Plan how you will avoid these situations for a few weeks. Plan for alternate activities.

LEAVE the situation. If you find yourself in one of these high risk situations, leave if you can. And, leave before you get a craving.

DISTRACT yourself from the craving.
If you find yourself in a situation you can't leave and you get a craving, distract yourself from the craving by:
  • Thinking about something else, like your Benefits of Quitting (or how much money you’re saving every week, how your body is healing itself).
  • Doing something else to distract yourself like drinking water or deep breathing exercises.
  • Thinking about an upcoming event in your life, such as a vacation.

DELAY acting on the craving
If you can't keep your mind off it, then make a deal with yourself that you will wait 5 minutes before you give into the craving. The craving will usually pass in a couple of minutes anyway. If you delay, the craving will go away.

Use SELF TALK A craving may be accompanied by negative thoughts about your ability to resist it. Use positive self talk statements to combat your negative thoughts.

Journal your coping strategies and keep them close for your next craving.

Today has been a rough craving day, well really it started last night.
This whole weeks been rough!  I attended my grandsons kindergarten graduation tuesday,
and there were smokers there...but I managed. My boss is leaving the country for 5 weeks
beginning this weekend and running me amuck at work trying to get last minute things done
he should have had done weeks ago and my sister has informed me that she's getting a divorce
so shes leaning on me pretty heavy right now.. kept me on the phone for 3 hours last night and BOY!
did I have a hell of a craving during that time!!! *sighs* but I managed with the carrot sticks and ice chips
and some choco chip cookies and walked as much as I could in and out of the house.. *whew* that was close!
Every time the thought would cross my mind, I would think of my stats, and how I really, really, really, REALLY
don't want to reset them!!  :-)  I just had to come here and vent a bit.. I hope no one minds...

Thanks for listening.. (umm... or reading?)
