Hi Chris, Della and all,
Just a couple of points from another perspective.
Della I agree with most of what you are saying.
Unfortunatley weight gain is a problem for a number of people while taking these drugs. Although it is a side effect and the meds are dispensed to treat our symptoms, these side effects can upset some people by adding something else to be depressed about, such as weight gain amongst other things. Is it a top priority in the beginning? no but at some point if it bothering you and it is making your anxiety worse, self esteem low etc. then you should consider changing your medications, after a consultation with your Dr.
I used Paxil for 4 years. I know at this point it is right for me to make the change.
Also I have always been told to trust and respect my physicians, BUT if the relationship is not there and I do not feel at ease with my Dr. then to change.
It all depends on the Dr. I have been lucky and only had one Dr. who could never remember who I was or why I was there until she read my file.
You need to feel comfortable enough with your Dr. to explain how you are really feeling. If you feel like you are going crazy, and you don't feel comfortable enough to tell your Dr. that, because "heaven knows what they will think" then he/she may not be aware of how bad your symptoms are.
Sometimes change is good and a different opinion can shed new light on a situation.
So of course best case scenario, perfect relationship, you've given it a chance, stay with your Dr. if it is not working out change.....
I wouldn't let a Dr. prescribe meds to my children if I didn't trust him/her, same goes for myself.
Also so many of us are scared of taking these meds that are prescribed for us. It is so much easier when you have a realtionship with your Dr, where you can trust what he is prescribing, and you can have a discussion about it before you leave the office.
