Renee I am straight-up TV generation. When I smoked I noticed I let a lot of ciggies burn down in my hand while watching, so when I quit I made my "prop" a fake cigarette, and holding it between my fingers does indeed help. Sounds silly...and I must admit when I misplace it...I have been known to freak out :gasp: but even if it becomes a replacement addiction...pretty sure it is harmless LOL Good luck Judi My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/9/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 42 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,890 Amount Saved: $378.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 20 Mins: 15 Seconds: 33

I had all the furniture cleaned and took to doing puzzles. I agree with all the advice here in that for some it would be best to change things a little to get rid of the reminders but eventually you do have to get 'used' to the triggers and perfect a way of ignoring them. Good luck and well done for getting this far! Try and get your stats to appear at the bottom of your posts. They are a great incentive in themselves. Good point, John!! I never smoked in the house, because my wife doesn't smoke and I wanted to be a courteous smoker! I always smoked in the garage or out side. Consequently I didn't have any inside triggers my first few days!!! I sure did end up mindlessly wandering towards that garage door those first few days though!!! Now that I think about that time, way last week, it cracks me up!!! :) I did stay out of the garage till about my fourth day!! I hope everyone's having another GREAT smoke-free day!!!! It would be very helpful to stop smoking in your house and car before you quit. Hi, Renee. Is there not at least one channel that doesn't bore you to death and make you crave a cigarette? No? Right, sorry ... stupid question... watch the radio instead. Hey Renee, changing your routine works for any craving situation. If its your am routine or watching TV. Grin gave you great advice. Sit in a different chair, or rearrange the furniture so your favorite chair is in a new place. It works for every room. The junkie like familiarity and this throws him right off! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 368 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,200 Amount Saved: $3,882.40 Life Gained: Days: 48 Hrs: 7 Mins: 13 Seconds: 33

I was extremely stubborn about my coffee and the occasional glass of wine. It was tobacco I was quitting and I flatly refused to give up things that I loved because they made me want to do a thing that I hated. This surely doesn't work for everyone since those triggers are wicked bad mojo but by forcing the triggers out of my life early on I wasn't surprised by them later. Renee Good idea, walking and physical activity are excellent ways to get the mind and brain working in a direction away from cigarettes. In the early days of my quit I was up and running by 4am. That way I did not get a chance to sink back into the cigarette trap. Good luck to you, being free of cigarettes is a goal well worth seeking... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 436 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,080 Amount Saved: $4,578.00 Life Gained: Days: 81 Hrs: 8 Mins: 56 Seconds: 18

I started doing my ironing watching tv to keep my hands busy, and have a few nice chocolates around! It helped me no bother!
