hi, I just read that you've taking celexa, can you tell me what side effects you were having w/ it. I've been on it for 10 days now and it seems as if it's getting worse. I take it at 8 pm and have been waking up every night w/ heart palpitations, arms and legs get a cold sensation, I tremble alot and I can't go back to sleep. If you could pls respond back. Thanks.

i respect your anwsers,to my questions, but at the same time xanax ive been on it for 5 years now,and the thing is the last few years it just dosent work as good.i need something all day,and i dont wnt to feel like im having brain surgery,or feeling like im going crazy, racing heart which i got already.xanax xr,might last all day but if the regular 1 mg 2 times a day sometimes they tell me 3 times a day isnt cutting what can i do?i need something to get me over the hump,im at my wits with panic, and mine lasts all day, usually my life is confined to sticking in the house not housebound, but feeling comftorable there,i know there has to be something better than this, but them side effects are bad..keep posting i see the shrink next week...later folks..

It is great that there is more than type of med than has the "XR" factor. The even levels with no Roller Coaster rides are wonderful. Della for SC

Outlaw: I tried the Lexapro, couldn't do it from the side effects, nausea worse than I've ever encountered. I was taking Ativan, .5 mg 3 times a day. My Dr. switched me last week to Xanar XR with is extended release. I take 1mg pill in the a.m. and that is it!!! It has worked wonders for me. Might be worth a try since you can tolerate Xanax, but at least it is not a roller coaster up and down trying to take pills 3 times a day. Good luck!

Hi Outlaw, I am on Effexor XR (Extended Release). My Fibro doc has just put my dosage up. It makes me groggy. I've always taken it at night, so the added mg's really doesn't matter when I first take it. What I find important is the XR formula. Instead of taking a med, getting that "burst" at the beginning, My Effexor XR is time-released so that I get an even dose all day. This works for me, but different people have different metabolic rates. I'm also on Synthroid. I suggest that you speak with your physician and make him/her aware of what you expect from your new meds. Tell him/her your routine so your meds will fit you, not the other way around. Start off your new meds gradually, increasing as you go. Being patient is the hardest thing, but it will be necessary to ensure a healthy transition. You don't want to "shock" your system as it will probably "revolt". Hope this helps you to make a better informed decision. Hang in there. Della From SC

i think,im in a group where i need meds,20minute panic attacks would be great for me,i feel like **** the whole day,and its been like this pretty much 5 years so,20 minutes to you sucks but to me not bad.The xanax the first few years made my life better, but the last three i havent been myself at all,and i got a kid,the hard thing of all this is the side effects of the anti depressnts.i belive in postive thinking, and more important,God,but i know this battle is to strong for me to fight at this point in my life im 25,i need pretty much what the person wh took the lexapro said, they needed it to save themself for there sake and more importantly theres..thank you people for responding med related or not, thanks.i did not know lexapro worked for anxiety,my girlfriend takes it on and off for depression.keep the reports and the advice coming people we will all survive..

I totally agree with Tiffany, most anxiety is all in our heads, we're great worriers. I too am not on medication and do not believe in meds, most of what I read states meds are fine for the short term but not the long term, CBT (cognitive behaviours therapy) has far better long lasting results. We have to learn to control the anxiety and take charge eventhough it's not easy and takes alot or hard work. I have a child who has spent a year and a half in therapy and is doing way better than on meds. Good luck in what ever you chose.

Outlaw, I fought taking medication for such a long time but am on week 3 of Lexapro (am on a low dose- 5 mg's) and WISH I had started it sooner. If you can't function and your anxiety is really interfering with your day, please consider Lexapro (or another antidepressent). I was SOOO against going on meds but realize now I could've saved myself (and my family) some heartache by trying it. Lexapro is approved specifically for anxiety and depression. It's not a magic pill but it has definitely helped me. Every day on it, I notice a difference.

The best medicine i have found that works and has no side effects, is to keep my mind POSITIVE... Dont get me wrong I have major panic attacks, but i have taught myself to deal with them, to accept it and to float with it. I have noticed when i feel one coming on that if i keep thinking of the physical symptoms it causes them to intensify more, but if i dont dwell on them the attack is actually not that bad, and it doesn't last that long either. I had panic attacks that use to last for up to 20 mints, now my panic last maybe 2 to 3 mints. I had a set back 3 weeks ago a major off the scale one but it only lasted not even 5 mints, its all what we tell ourselves, i know its harder than hake when having one to calm down you feel right down scared to death and all these horrible thoughts are going through your mind and images, but its teaching yourself to calm yourself down. I personally have never taken medicine for this and i never will, i dont like medicine as it is, so i am stubborn. This seems to calm me this saying: " Thoughts, there only thoughts." and that seems to help me calm down a bunch, and get back to reality cause they are there just thoughts that scare us even more than panic it's self. Hey i just got done reading a book and it seems to of helped me look at panic attacks in whole different light its called Hope and help for your nerves by Dr.Claire Weeks. So remember its just thoughts! :), and you will get through this and be a much stronger person...
