You need to find a coping mechanism that isn't going to kill you. I'm in the same place, so I can feel your pain. It's not Ok to run to either junk food or cigs when you need "something". I'm trying meditation now. Jacqui, I noticed a pattern early on in my quit... and to some extent it is still evident. I noticed that there would be periods of heightened craving, followed by lulls. The periods of craving got shorter and less intense, generally speaking,... as the lulls got longer and less peppered with moments of craving. I will still encounter a few days of increased craving every little while. In fact, the last couple of days was like that. It's not strong, but compared to the peace I usually have these days...even a few days of mild craving can be annoying. Anyway, at 100 days I was still wrestling with some strong desire to smoke. Not every day, but it would come in waves.... a few days of craving, followed by calm for a while. It's just your mind making the adjustment. Thinking of it as a physical injury that's healing... and the discomfort is letting you know that the healing process is active. It won't last, Jacqui. Little by little it will fade away until the day comes when you look back... and you'll realize, "I haven't had anything that I could call "craving" in... how long?" Give it time. Give it as much time as it needs. I know you're not where you want to be, yet... but you're getting there. And the only way to get there is to pass through where you're at today. Smile. :) You're getting better! I call those the sneak attack cravings! I think I got them untill around 200 days or so, it has been awhile (knock on wood). Just be tough, they will dissappear as quickly as they came! 100 days is toooo long of a quit to blow. You have proved that you do not need cigarettes to survive. Big pat on the back for posting first! Jacqui, I think that has happened to most of us here. Just hang on and it will pass. It is the junkie talking and he is trying to stay alive. He knows he is dieing and the only way he can live is to pull you back into the darkness of the addiction. You have been given great advice. Drink lots of water, take deep breaths and know that you are not choking. Have that cookie and while you are at it eat one for me. Run, jump up and down, scream, take a long hot bath and crawl under the covers. This will pass.
