Mimi, You had a slip that is all. Now just get back on track and learn from it. When I quit I kept a pack of cigarettes in my china cabinet for the longest time but a couple of months ago when I started thinking I wonder if I could have just one I threw the pack away and I know had I kept it I too would have probably slipped. We are only human and have to learn from our mistakes. Glad you are back on track. Mimi, I am sure you feel bad right now but, don't beat yourself up. Try to figure out what led you to buy the cigs. And next, find ways so it will not happen again. Could it be that smoking was the one thing that you had all to yourself? You said you do not smoke around the kids and hubby. Maybe smoking was just the one thing you had all to yourself? Your get away? If so, what can you sub? Yoga, reading, a bubble bath, writing in your diary or posting on this site? Try to find something to indulge yourself in (just for Mimi). Concentrate on how good you feel now that you are a nonsmoker. Keep that feeling in mind next time you want to buy those things that make you feel so bad! So did I... :( If you didn't post this, I was gonna do it. I bought a pack yesterday with no valid excuse (slap me!) and smoked 2 cigarettes last night and 2 this morning already. Shame on me I know! I felt terrible after the 2 cigs last night, but I still keep doing it! I just wanna bang my head on the wall right now. I was doing so great, for the first time I managed to make it to Day 10, but I screwed it! Makes me wanna cry. Don't reset your counter if this is a minor slip to you. I'll reset mine cause 4 is too much to me. I slipped last evening and had 2 cigarettes. I went to bed in tears and did not sleep well as I felt so guilty and ashamed of myself. Here I am this morning on this site so early in the day because I needed to get this off my chest. There are no longer any cigarettes in my sight and I am trying to take this in a positive approach and learn from it. The thing is I have been feeling so great about my quit and about my health. I can't even pin point why I did this. I was going for a walk and stopped at the corner store and bought a pack of smokes just cause I felt like it. How stupid was that? I never smoked in our home as my husband is a non-smoker and I don't like the smell and never smoked in front of the children. I just opened the pack and smoked one on my way home and the other in the back yard. This morning I got up, cut the rest of them up and threw them away. I only pray that I don't have to go through strong withdrawal again as I was doing so great. I keep fighting these thoughts that come into my head that I try to justify why it's not the right time or that I could just have a smoke every once in awhile. I don't understand why I can go for 5 or 6 days straight without these thoughts and then suddenly like yesterday be fighting with them so often. I know now that I need to consider them as just thoughts and concentrate on the positive. With the help of this sight and with all the postings that I have read over the past few weeks I can do it. I think I will still consider my quit date as January 14/08 and just consider this a slip. I would appreciate hearing from any of you who experienced a slip and if you felt as bad about it as I do today. Thanks for the support and Good-Luck to all. Your postings are so encouraging to me.
