Bump on the Road to Recovery

Hello Gin It is the triggers that cause the problems for most, not the withdrawals as much.. That is, smoking after a meal, on the phone, anrgy, sad... Do the work book and plan, list as many triggers as you are aware of, and plan a distraction for them. There is a lot of help here for you. Be a planner! Btw, i did the patch, I just did left it off at night and put it back on in the morning if i needed it. Good Night there! Sleep well, and don't smoke My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/22/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 678 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,204 Amount Saved: $3,729.00 Life Gained: Days: 123 Hrs: 18 Mins: 44 Seconds: 2

Thanks a whole bunch Stickin To It. It's true...there are a few people who we thought would never quit and they did. Got to it take one day at a time. Tomorrow is another day but it's not here yet so I won't worry about it. I guess that's how you have to do it eh? The interesting thing is since I've been off the patch I don't have stomach cramps. It's quite the relief and it's making my quit a lot easier. I suppose NRT isn't for everybody. Chantix didn't work for me either. So I have to go at it cold turkey. But at least after 3 days of quitting the nicotine is out of your bloodstream. It's more just a habit then needing nicotine in the system...although you do crave it nonetheless. Hope you all have a good night. Talk to you all tomorrow. Gin you will find many bumps in the road, but being prepared for then helps. You are "looking" at the Queen of relapses. A title I don't want to share with you or anyone else :eg: The most important thing I have learned about quitting is this - YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT FOR YOURSELF. Not for a loved one, not for us, not for anyone but yourself. The cravings and the chatter in the mind at times are almost unbearable, but they do pass. With each quit I learned a little more and boy I sure hope I am finished learning. I want to be "Free". Take some time and think about what freedom from smoking will give you. If you are going cold turkey, there are several here on the site that have done it that way and had success. There is a book by Allen Carr that may help you also, if you are sure you want to do this cold turkey. You (we) can do this!!! Gin, What Martha said is right. Preparedness is a huge part of quitting. Please don't beat yourself up. You made a mistake and you are learning from it. Isn't that what it's all about. You can do this and just as Martha said, we are here to support you. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,940 Amount Saved: $573.30 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 19 Mins: 36 Seconds: 25

Yes, I'm ready, Martha. It's true you have to have a plan in place when you travel and I need to do that too. This site has been a lot of help to me. I guess I'll have to reset my meter. Danielle, I know going cold turkey is harder than again maybe not. I have to play it by ear. I hope my slip will help me along the way so that I don't repeat it.
