Bracing myself for the big day!

Hey Fred. Good on you - hope your first day wasn't too horrific. The time seems to go sooooo sloooooowwwlllllyyy at the beginning. I'm now just over three weeks and time seems to finally gone back to normal. It will help you in your quit that Ireland is smoke-free (so is New Zealand) - it really does help that you can go to pubs, restaurants etc and not have to sit in other people's smoke - that would make it too hard for me, I would have to become a hermit. To help me through withdrawals, I "smoke" plastic drinking straws cut down to cig size. They're cheap, clean and you can even "smoke" them inside (but they're a bugger to light!). I've read some people on here who say they still crave a smoke even after years. That might be so, but I can truthfully say that I have already had several days where I haven't even thought about smoking - I believe that will only get better with time. Just think, 48 hours and the nicotine's gone - everything after that is a doddle. Best of luck from Down Under. Congrats on your decision to quit. One thing I find very very helpful in my attempts to quit, is to get rid of everything tonight cigerette related, including ashtray's or any stray butts in the yard. You need to remove all temptation from your morning routine tomorrow. I even put all my lighter's in a drawer and cleaned out my purse to make sure there were no stray packs with just one cig in it. Good luck in the morning and say goodbye to the nasty habit tonight!! Fred, Yabadabadoo! Welcome back. Sounds like you've got a great attitude and that is a huge part of a successful quit. There is a lot to be excited about in your new smokefree life. If you haven't yet, take some time to do the online program. It is really helpful and a good way to get excited about the road ahead. Well, tomorrow is the big day and I'm really hoping that this is it. I managed to quit once before with the help of the Center and I know I can do it again. If there's anyone out there who wants to buddy up (one or more) and keep in touch, please do. I need all the help I can get and I'm more than willing to help anyone out there if I can.
