mrlucky, nobody can guarantee that they won't smoke. That's not really what the promise is about,at least not to me.
There are 2 parts to it, there's the promise not to smoke for a aday or a weekend or whatever, & there's the offer of yuor hand to the next person. The way I see it, if you take the hand of the one before you & the one behind you takes yours, you don't have a free hand to light up.
The promise is really a re-affirmation of our commitment to ourselves and a reminder that we are here to support each other. MAy of us find it to be a good motivator.
Nobody has to do anything they don't feel comfortable with, mrlucky. So if you don't want to join the promise parade, nobody is going to fault you for it. Or, you could promise not to smoke for the next 10 minutes, if you feel that's all you can commit to. Wahtever works for each of us, is the right way.
