A Female Question!!

Hi Lisa, I'm also a Lisa. If you have read any of my previous posts. I have been panic free for 17 years. I am now 39 and it has started again. It is definitely worse around my period. I too have thought about going on the pill, but do the risks outweigh the benefits? I don't know. I do hate the panic though, but it has lessened with therapy, meds, and improvement in my diet. It's tough...a constant struggle, but we'll get there. Just stay positive everyone!!!!!! Lisa

Thank you! I thought I was losing my mind. I told my doctor that a week before my perion I get the shakes, lightheaded, racing heart etc... Do you think maybe ging on the pill may help with the hormones?? Sometimes I think that is the only thing that can help stop this. By te way Mike that is funnt, sounds like something my husband would say!!

Ok, Mike. Apparently I took your comment the wrong way. I joke about everything, but I'm new to this site and didn't want to see anyone's feelings get hurt. I guess I'm just a little too sensitive (don't you dare blame it on PMS--ha ha!). I'm really glad this discussion has started as well. I've been really trying to pay attention to my body so I can try to have some control over my symptoms. That's when I discovered the "psycho-cycle syndrome" as I like to call it. I really think it has a lot to do with all the changes in your body. I have endometriosis, so, on top of the physical changes, I dread how painful it's going to be. It's just an added stress to what is not that fun to begin with. Let's keep this dialogue open. I think hormones are an important link to PD. Katie

Chanda, My panic and anxiety is definately worse around that time of the month. Probably about 50-75% worse. For me it begins on about the 2nd day of my period and doesn't stop until about a week after its over. To be quite frank, it's absolute hell for me. I can relate to everything Katie said and then some. I have terrible headaches, cramping, and sometimes nausea in addition to the symptoms Katie mentioned. I have one attack after another and they are very intense and scary. I am so glad you started this discussion because now I know i'm not the only one who goes through this. If at all possible I try get all of my bills paid, errands run, groceries bought, and everything I know that has to be done during that time span accomplished the week before because I am almost totally housebound when that time of month rolls around. Wouldn't it be nice if tomorrow a miracle cure was invented for us? (wishful thinking! lol) Well, Hang in there! You're not alone. Samantha

Hi Chanda I also have worse anxiety at that time of the month. For me, I notice about 3 days before it starts and it stays strong till I'm done. I have gad everyday but I've noticed it's much stronger around this time and my doc said she's heard many patients say the same thing. Mike your post made me laugh as many of your posts do and no offence to Katie but keep it coming. I know I need it!!

Mike, please don't apologize I thought it was very funny. I really did laugh! I CAN ALWAYS USE THE HUMOR! Thanks Katie for the feedback..I have been feeling the same way, tense & very weak. I am feeling anxious today for no reason, do you think it's because of PMS? This is such a roller coaster! I can go for months & feel fine but have one bad day & I thinking "Oh my God..here it comes I'm going to feel like this for the rest of my life". I'm not very good with "setbacks". Anyway thanks again Katie & Mike, Chanda

Chanda, My sincere apologies to you. Since you ended your post with a little joke I felt it might be OK to inject some humor into the discussion. I am terribly sorry if you were offended in any way. I certainly hope others can help you with some real amswers. Mike

Sorry, I thought a little lightheartedness would be welcomed. My apologies if I offended anyone, it was not my intention, I am fully sympathetic with the way everyone feels here. Mike

It's funny that you bring up this question Chanda, because lately, I've been really trying to pay attention to when my panic is worse, and it's definitely worse around the time of my period. You get lethargic, tense, and just generally weak feeling. I've been taking a few steps based on a nutrition book I've been reading and it seems to be helping. Your hormones go crazy during this time, so, naturally, you're going to feel different (i.e.panicky). For your average, non panicky person, this is just a minor annoyance, but for those of us with PD, it's another time to question the way we feel. I've been trying to make sure I eat healthy right before, during, and right after my period. I read that your body loses Manganese during your cycle and that a good way to replenish it is with pineapple. My husband bought me some canned pineapple and the last 2 cycles I've had haven't been nearly as bad. I try to eat it once a day during my period. I also make sure I get plenty of iron by eating more red meat than I normally do. These are just some suggestions of things that have helped me. I hope this helps you too. Good luck. Mike, you should really try to be more sensitive to the way others are feeling. Katie
