Congradualtions Florida quitter. This is the BEST thing you could be doing for yourself. The next few weeks....if not months is ALL ABOUT YOU. The advice careleyne gave you is excellent. You need to be happy....positive...almost excited about the "new" you. Picture a healthy more active you. When those craves hit go for a very brisk walk. That helps more than anything. The more you feel badly or think you are missing something the more triggers you will have. Do what ever it takes to dismiss them!! When having bad times (like this 3 hour crave) give your brain a rest from thinking about it. Watching a movie lets you focus on something else for a change. It's a well needed break. Be patient with your moods and feelings. Your brain is lacking serotonin right now and takes weeks for it to adjust. It leaves you feeling down and unhappy feeling. It will slowly change back to normal. Read EVERYTHING in this SSC sight. In your search (yahoo.google) type in cigarette smoking...and read..read....read all you can. When you find websights that are grafic and show actual pictures of people suffering from cigarette smoking diseases it will freak you out and end your craves for days. It did mine. There was this web sight of young people.....much younger than me who had gotten cancer on their tongs..or inside their cheeks. OH MY...I won't even tell you what they have to go through for a small white patch!! Give that a try and let me know how you feel. lots of support.....hang in there. Three weeks is AWESOME...AND IT DOES GET BETTER. mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 132 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,640 Amount Saved: $590.04 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 10 Mins: 16 Seconds: 31

Floridaquitter, Welcome to blah week! A week marked by feelings of tiredness and increased cravings. Do hang in there, this will pass. Keep employing your coping strategies as needed and be sure to reward yourself often for staying smoke free. If your daughter and husband need you often, it may be helpful to engage in an interest or hobby outside the house or negotiate a time with them where you can have some you time. Keep persevering and congrats on three weeks! Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Well, first of all, congratulations on being smoke free for 3 weeks! That is no small accomplishment. I am not using patches, I am using Chantix and think it does help a lot. However, I think what helps more is the mental side. In this quit, I am more positive and more mentally prepared and it has made a HUGE difference in the way I feel. I completed the program on the left in the glove compartment, and I feel that helped a lot. Also, I read around about addiction and the research that has been done on nicotine, which I think helped me a lot also. I also read a book by Allen Carr which was very helpful in the mental aspect of smoking also. If you poke around a bit you will find a ton of threads about coping with cravings and really getting into the mental aspects of quitting. I also have heard more than once that 3 weeks is hard as is the 3rd day and the 3rd month. Anyway, welcome to the SSC, I think you will find that everyone is very supportive. I haven't had a cigarette in over 3 weeks. I've been using the patch. The first week was really easy, but last week and this week have been pretty bad. The weekends are really bad. I had a craving today that lasted around 3 hours. I'm not sure why things are getting harder?? I've been thinking about switching to the gum or maybe trying that new drug. My daughter and husband are very demanding of my time and attention and will not leave me alone even when I try to tell them I need a minute to cope. I'm not sure what to do from here. Please advise and thanks in advance.
