NRT or no NRT?

I've quit with the patches and then quit cold turkey. Before I quit cold turkey I did a lot of reading to get my self prepared mentally. (The Easy Way to Quit Smoking, Allan Carr) But for me Cold Turkey was easier and quitting cold turkey stuck as my last and final quit. Cold Turkey did not draw the quit time out so long as the patches do, and after 4 months of no nicotine at all, if felt like I hadn't been smoking for a year. I know everyone is different and you will find the right path for yourself. The important thing is to make the commitment to not smoke and even if you fail, you get up, knock off the dust and keep heading toward a smoke free life. Navigator "If it is too be, it is up to me." It's the one bit of Allen Carr's book that I disagree with... Why quit cold turkey if it can be easier using patches? So patches cost money - a mere drop in the ocean compared to what I have spent on cigs in my life! Phil- I have to agree with you. While I've been smoke free for almost a year, I am nic free for a little more than a month. I think nrt's logically would postpone withdrawal, but I know that without the patch, I wouldn't have made it a day so it's a moot point for me to say I should have gone cold turkey. And you're right- you've gone too far now!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 331 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,258 Amount Saved: $2979 Life Gained: Days: 55 Hrs: 6 Mins: 18 Seconds: 11

Hi buddy Listen, sorry to hear that the road is a bit bumpy for you - it can be discouraging especially when we feel that we have turned a corner. Between the 2 of us Phil I know you wont smoke, you know you wont smoke. You know I wont smoke and I know I wont smoke - you know what I mean. I think that the most helpful thing you can do is exactly what you are doing - just being honest about the experience and how you are feeling and letting us know here. I've no advice for you at all - just wanted to let you know that I'm here and listening. Phil I'm right with you on this one - NRT is an aid - a useful aid and it's role is a supportive one. The 100% cure (for want of a better phrase) comes from our desire to be smoke free and our persistent and consistent action in being smoke free. Hey Phil, This is how I did it. Week One - 21mg. patch Week Two - 14mg. patch Week Three - 7mg.patch Week Four - naked as a jaybird! I've just started my fifth week and its OK. Not great but good enough. This is by no means my first attempt so I've had some practice. I kind of know what to expect and am more than willing to go through it! SO VERY WORTH IT!!!!! Have a great day!
