Fear of enclosed places......

Dear Lady bug, I always leave the door open in any office I go into especially the doctors office. I always thought it was because I have shortness of breath in places without windows. I don't really think there is anything wrong with this. I feel o.k. when the person comes into the room just not when I am anticipating someone comming in. The aticipation causes me anxiety feelings. Thank you very much for speaking about this because I don't feel so alone in this. I wish you well

I fear being at the dr and er. Being made to wait behind the curtain alone or shut in the room. I wonder just how little they actually know about ppl with anxiety.

With driving I have a little of both. I panic if I am driving and I can't find a shoulder - just in case I need to pull over. But I completely understand about the panic when other people are driving, I get that too. I actually feel uncomfortable in my own skin, I want to jump out of the car.

I too have fear of enclosed places. Elevators, planes, etc.. anywhere I cannot get out of immediately if I want to I have fears of being in. Also speaking of cars, I tend to have attacks being a passenger but lesser or not at all when I am the driver. I believe this is because I know I am in control.

I'm new at this recovery thing, just wanted to say I have the opposite. When a car stops I want to start screaming and crying and running, but I am ok when it is in motion.

Yeah - I get this too. I get really scared when I have a lecture or seminar - which is every week, or when I go to church or CU. Sitting in the doctors surgery is hell, as is waiting anywhere. I find that sometimes distraction helps. So I try to get involved in my seminars, or take a magazine to the surgery. If you're at the theatre you could set yourself some things to figure out about the play. And remember it's you're choice to be there, you can leave at any time. I guess thats it, there's not much more I can think of. Rachel

I have been recently having panic attacks (from mild to severe symptoms), while in enclosed places. It is a claustrophobic feeling, and a feeling like I have to get out of there! I have even felt this when I am a passenger in a car......I begin to feel like I need to get out of the car, but I sit through it, and am so relieved when the car stops! I was recently at a live show at an amusement park, and I began to think that when those doors close there will be no way out and I would be stuck there. So I had to leave before the show started! It's usually during those times that I feel it the worst....when doors are shut or a vehicle is moving and there is no way out or no way to stop. Is there anyone out there who has experienced this? If so, how can I sit there and deal with this? Any suggestions will help.
