Jeez, the honeymoon is over

The first couple days were exciting and new. These last two have been tiring and irritating. I have run the gamut of feeling great to feeling like a bag of crap. I can't concentrate, people annoy me, people make no sense when they talk to me. Feels like I am on autopilot and stuck in a holding pattern. This feeling is absolutely awful. I got very little sleep last night. I found myself yelling at the dog this morning coz he wouldn't hurry up and pee and I live in Florida so it's not cold. I am so exhausted and cross from quitting. ARRGGHHHHH! I feel like a prisoner in my own head. NewPapa - It's a hell of a roller coaster ride, these first few weeks. I posted something a few days ago about the crap I'm feeling well into my 2nd week. Hang in there, man. I've done this many times. It gets easier. The difference with me this time is that I know I'm not going back, no matter how bad it gets. -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 303 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 18 Mins: 50 Seconds: 39

New Papa, This is normal and your not loosing your mind. I once yelled (nice way of saying what I did) at my husband while he was still sleeping...hmmmm...or was he, and the sock basket from hell almost sent the kid's to foster care and the husband to the attorney. But....it does get better. I promise you. An aggrivated state is no excuse to have that cig to make the aggrevation go away. Just ride the wave, and as the days go by, when your aggrivated, take a moment and think about what your really angry about. When I did this, I realized I was coping incorrectly with both minor and major stresses. If all else fails, call me...I know how to hide the bodies of anyone who "annoys" you the first two weeks of your quit. Hey New Papa - You are doing one of the hardest things that you will ever do in your life. Quitting is exhausting - we go for exhilerated to depressed to angry to excited to crazy and back again (and that can be in less than an hour). You are at the beginning of your journey. There will be bumps along the way but the ride will get smoother. You have totally described the beginning stages of quitting. First, you're really excited, and then it's like "IS THIS IT?!?!" Well, the answer is yes and no. Your body is going through a lot of changes right now and it may take a little while for things to calm down. The best thing you can do for yourself to get that "fire" back with your quit is to reward yourself. Are you rewarding yourself for your hard work? Rewards are very important. They keep us going when we want to give up. They give us something to look forward to and something to shoot for. Make a list of things you will do to reward yourself at different milestones - 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, etc... and stick to it. Rewards are NOT optional! They really do help keep us going when we want to quit the quit. Reward yourself! YOu're worth it! Crave the Quit!
