Are you on meds?

Hi jaide! I do take meds for my panic disorder and also other conditions. Right now I am on xanax, geodon, and paxil cr. I am weaning off the paxil cr because I've been on it for months with no improvement. :\ The xanax is good in a tight spot when I need something *now*. I don't take the geodon specifically for my PD, but it really helps lessen my anxiety a lot and has helped me to be able to so things like this to help myself. It's possible to work through this without meds, but I'm not brave enough to try! :D

Hello Jaide, The use of medication is totally based on the individual. If you are considering it, you should definitely talk to your doctor. Even if you decide not to take anything your doctor can direct you to alternate forms of treatment. Susanne

Jaide, I was on Prozac for several years. Just found out that Prozac is really not for panic. Its an SSRI in the same family as Paxil CR and do the same thing, but Prozac tends to cause agitation and anxiety, whereas Paxil Cr is suppose to have more mellowing effect. I just started on the Paxil CR last night and about a half hour later I started feeling mellow. I know these things aren't suppose to work instantly and it may have been because it was the first one I took....but yesterday I couldn't go to work. I cried all morning and was in a highly agitated state. My primary care physician directed me to a counselor and after seeing him, the 2 of them worked together and decided it was best to stop the Prozac and start on the Paxil CR. The counselor specializes in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and says he's had a great success rate with it. This only gives me hope. I'm going to continue to see him weekly and see how things go. Until then, I plan on giving the Paxil CR a chance. Sometimes panic is caused by a chemical imbalance. If you were diabetic you would take insulin if your doc told you you needed it. Look at panic the same way. If it is chemical and you need meds to help correct the problem, then by all means don't be afraid.

I'm just curious about who is on medicine for their anxiety/panic and who is not.If you are, what do you take, and does it help?If you're not, what are your coping methods? Also,at what point does a person decide to go on meds?Is it a personal decision?a doctors advice? Are people able to overcome this without any?
