addicted to NRT

for 17 år siden 0 1306 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Yes, smoking while using NRT doesn't cut it...you're still a smoker. I have tried all methods of quitting. I've used the patch before...didn't work. I used zyban...worked for a while. I did it cold turkey....3 months. I am presently on the patch and it is helping me a great deal to learn how to live life without smoking. Certainly using an NRT after the prescribed period is not recommended, but neither is substituting with alcohol and food...and that is done all the time, and we excuse that as being an acceptable way of dealing with our new life. Those that are using NRT have quit and are doing the best they can. I for one say WAY TO GO. Whatever works. Eventually, and some have realized this, that using NRT is not what they want either and will take action to wean themselves. GO FOR IT. I'll support them. Any quit smoking aid (Chantrix included) is available to make the going easier. There is no magic pill, just a lot of hard work, whatever way you choose to approach it. Ex I've been watching this thread, waiting until there was something I felt I could say that might help. I feel your pain!!!! It hurts so very much to continue to do this to ourselves, when we know we want something better for our lives. You want to be free...that much I can tell. You definately have the desire. Don't worry about the commitment...it will come. What has helped me this time is the confidence in my ability to be able to do this...that I have made the right decision. I BELIEVE!!!!! I just knew I no longer wanted to be a slave to this, nor did I want to go on hating myself. Believe in yourself. You are bigger than this addiction and you will do whatever you need to do get through it one step at a time. You will be a winner. Of that I am sure. ex, you are addicted to nicotine, plain and simple. The addiction is the addiction, regardless of the delivery method. Until you stop ingesting the drug, you will continue to be a slave. Yes, we talk about smoking here, but the issue is addiction to nicotine. Rusty

ex-slave....I agree---you are a nicotine addict....you have to get off nicotine. All of the nrt's are "weaning" systems....and you finally have to break with the lowest recommended dosage. Try to not let this become panic time. yes, you may experience some craves....but you have fought through craves to get where you are....this is nothing you can't do! and I promise you it WILL pass.....I can promise you something else too....if you continue to use nicotine (any delivery method) the craves for it will continue. it's a certain fact. so----set yourself up with a reward plan for each day that you get through without those lozenges....and don't look back....keep looking forward. In a week or so, you should be feeling more positive about this. Also, realize that as addicts, we continue to have times of battling the urges to turn back....some even after long periods of time, but it should get easier and easier to redirect your thinking. go have a treat....and make a list of all the positives of not smoking....fill your mind with these when a crave tries to come around and smack ole nic with THAT thinking Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1849 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 73,975 Amount Saved: $10539.3 Life Gained: Days: 243 Hrs: 21 Mins: 37 Seconds: 25

Get you some mints...or hard lemon drop candy....pop on of those when you think of the lozenge....no doubt your urge is partly for having the lozenge to eat.....(but where there is nicotine delivered, there is going to be a "wanting" more of it) sounds to me like your panic is just that...panic...and more in your mind than your body? You have been with low doses of nicotine long enough to now cut it out completely......try "replacing" it and see what happens.... and the straws??.....I can STILL give one of them fits at certain times.....but they won't kill us...so chew on!!!
