Hi Dunedad, I'm feeling wonderful this morning about making it to 4 weeks, and so thankful for SSC. This is my second longest quit in my life, so that is reason to celebrate also. I'm so proud of you, you have been a great partner to quit with. I think we were both really ready to make a difference in our lives. I'm staying on 21mg for another two weeks, and then I'm going down to 14mg. I want to make sure this quit is forever....whatever it takes!! I'm going to follow your lead and hopefull will be off nic totally by the middle to the end of January. Congratulations Dunedad and congrats on the house....it's going to look great for Christmas!!!! Moqueen, I can relate...I'm doing the same thing. Although, I will be on the 21mg for 6 weeks, then 2 weeks on 14 and 2 weeks on 7. What ever it takes. I'm not taking any chances on this quit. I used to like smoking just too much to let my guard down. Your stats look great by the way....you should be so proud of yourself! I adore See's chocolate! But I can tell you what - I would throw it in the trash (after one bite) as quick as I would a pack of cig.s My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 190 Amount Saved: $95 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 18 Mins: 12 Seconds: 28

Dunedad, I'm really sorry. It seems I have taken over your post meant to congratulate you on your accomplishment (YA hooooooooooooooooooooo!). (I'm new to Texas and trying to assimulate (sp?) How'mIdo'n? Let's consider that I owe you big time - OK? Anyway, on to a response to Windy, etc. I read my post. Isn't it funny that I said that it is difficult to step down, yet I forget to use it? And I know it works. About 10 minutes after I put it on I can feel the thing tingling. Windy, tonight - especially after forgetting the patch all day, I considered letting it go- after all, I had gone all day. My hubby's out of town and as I hit the door after an extra long commute w/o the benefit of commute lane (needs 2 or more passengers), I hit the ground running with hungry kids and homework. I couldn't find my nic. gum. (I can't seem to find anything). I freaked. I started the self talk -"you could run down to the store, tell the kids you needed to go there for something, they will be asleep in a couple of hours, your husband is gone, you can spend hours listening to the radio and smoking in the beautiful night air. I slapped a patch on. I will need to take it off in a couple of hours. It really shows the space I'm in at this time. Maybe these cold turkey people know what they are talking about. When I quit for the 11 years, I didn't use any crutches. But I did move the pace of a sloth (my favorite animal). Dunedad, I never realized before that you are evil, truly evil. But with you a successful quitter and she a dieter - the world needs to watch out. Who knows what you both could do if you get together now. I'm sure you do. It's time for bed. I'm sure the kids are asleep. Don't tell the Mrs. that we all say "Hello" til morning. (I didn't post this. Someone came in and used my name) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 200 Amount Saved: $95 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 20 Mins: 22 Seconds: 55

Hey Dunedad, I stepped down to 7 mg. today. It's a big step for me. Today being Tuesday. Last Thursday I forgot my 14 mg. patch and had to run home to get it. Friday I forgot my 14 mg. patch and ran home to get it. Monday (the first real day of 7 mg.) I forgot my patch and didn't have time to run home and get it. Maybe this is something subconscious or maybe it has to do with being a mom and getting two kids out, two dogs and a cat together for the day (hubby fends for himself). We just adjusted to daylight savings time (or not - whatever) and a cold snap hit. The bottom line is (too late - I know), that today I really felt it. In my what I call baby quits over the past three years. I mostly used the patch. I was great at 21mg. But by 14mg. the nic started talking - "you could just have one. take your patch off at night and have one before you put the patch on in the am" or "just one won't give you a stroke or a heart attack -we're talking small stuff here". Man, that nic is persistent, you should hire him to do your rennovations (sp?). In the past I never made it past 14. Today I went to 7mg. I really felt it. Of course, yesterday I didn't have any cravings, but I can be good with delaying pleasure. That's how I could survive a weekend w/o smoking (with gum). I looked forward to the Monday where I could smoke as much as I wanted. Now that safety shelf is gone. I do have some nic gum left. I thought about using it if the cravings got too tough (after the patch). I read phil's comment - 30 pieces takes 2-3 weeks (hold on, I'm going to read the gum brochures). Okay. "Step 3" (sounds official, doesn't it?) says 1 piece every 4-8 hours (which I don't get. if you have a crave at 4 hours, couldn't you have a crave at 7 hours. wouldn't that make you need to take 2 pieces? would that pull you back to "Step 2") Is this algebra class or trying to understand the rhythm(sp?) method? Phil, whatever it takes - that's my motto. Dunedad, Good luck. It is a little uncomfortable for me to step down. I hope not a precurser (sp?) of what is to come. You seem to be doing great. In fact, you have an obligation to model to me that it can be done (not really, but if that works for you - OK). My Milage: My Quit Da

Hi Kevin, I've read so many of your posts and you are going to do wonderfully when you step down :) I love your positive attitude and the humour you bring to these threads. You are right though.. start the step down and don't look too far into the future, just take it all one day at a time and I know that you'll come out a shining star ! Lots of support! Any ideas re your reward for your one month quit? ((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 35 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 705 Amount Saved: $315 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 20 Mins: 22 Seconds: 23
