I'm a different person

You know, I'm surprised to hear that the cranky feelings can occur 40 days down the path. That's good to know. Now I won't feel like a loser if I'm still a bit temperamental.

I feel your pain!! My family has had it with me and its only been 2 days. I am angry, grumpy, short tempered. I just feel completely out of control. I know that I have to get through this stage or I will never suceed in quitting. You are doing great, try and from what I hear it will get better. Chicky

Congrats on 40 days! It's a whole different lifestyle.. being a non smoker and relaxing was always associated with having a cigarette. For myself I had to change so many habits.. like in the a.m. 1st thing was a coffee and a cig. Now I eat my breakfast 1st, have a tall glass of juice and then get started on my day. Relaxing for me has taken on a whole new meaning -- i.e. a relaxing walk, closing my eyes and listening to my favourite music. Finding 'me' time etc. I just hit my one month mark and have rearranged all of my old habits which were always associated with a smoke. Slowly these new habits are becoming firm everyday habits. Taking it all one day at a time ! Also, did you give yourself a reward for your 40 day quit! You deserve something very nice :) Stay strong... I'm have the same problem with relaxing at the end of the day -- we have this really cool room in our house I call the "lounge"-- really small, intimate, and very "barsy" -- was the only room where smoking was allowed in the house (and I was the only one who smoked except when my friends or kids came over) --- now I don't go near that room. I don't relax anywhere -- that's actually what I miss the most, like especially in the middle of cooking dinner... everything is humming along, so it's time for a nice glass of wine and smoke on the back porch (or in the lounge ...) Haven't found a (legal) substitute for that yet. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,569 Amount Saved: $170.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 11 Mins: 52 Seconds: 46

Hi i haven spoken before, mostly i read what other people write, but i need some reassurance, since giving up smoking which i'm extremely happy about i feel like I'm a different person. I don't speak with the same people at work anymore, i don't seem to relax at home with my husband anymore with a drink after a long day (he doesn't smoke, i just can't seem to sit still for very long) I yell at my children alot more and i feel like i've turned into the most serious person ever. Does anyone feel the same way My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 802 Amount Saved: $300 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 2 Mins: 14 Seconds: 1

Hi, thank-you so much to everyone, even through i still feel the same reading all your messages makes me feel like I'm not alone. I,m taking hope in the fact that I'll feel better soon, and back in control of my life. I didn't realise not smoking could cause my emotions to become so out of control, i seem to cry about everything, when i read a book, when i watch a movie,on the phone i think my husband is starting to think it's something else. Again thank-you everyone My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 813 Amount Saved: $300 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 3 Mins: 13 Seconds: 37

PC, When did it eventually go away? I have been fighting non stop with my guy, I thought it was just that our relationship was incompatible, but for the last 2 years before I quit we were great!! I don't know what to do, I try to be positive but I feel miserable!! Is this really STILL an effect of quitting? I am feeling thoroughly hopeless, and starting to get really stressed out... Hey Crab..I'm with you there..my nickname now is "The Cop"! Sometimes I feel like I've joined the goody-two-shoes side, and the James Dean in me wants to put on a black leather jacket, grease back my hair, and hang on a street corner with a cig hanging out of my mouth. (And I'm a grandmother!) We're not too far apart in our quit dates, so we're going through that private war in our heads...trying not to think about the thing that we crave and when we catch ourselves thinking about it we jump up and do whatever will distract us, whether yelling, cleaning, or just screaming inside. I've found that clipping the leash on the dog and going for a good 20-30 minute walk turns me right around. I come back rosy cheeked, and a little happier. Find something that feels good for you, and do it. I've been told the crabbys will pass. This site helps so much. It's like having a guru to help us along the path. Keep up the good work! Find something for your inner self that brings you joy, and use it when you're feeling low.
