TSURB, For natural stop smoking aids, consult a naturopath, pharmacist or physician. They have a wealth of knowledge they can share with you. Herbal supplements can provide great therapeutic benefits. However, it is known that natural alternatives are not always safe. Some supplements have been shown to interact with medications, cause allergic reactions or aggravate certain medical conditions. We advise you to consult with your doctor, pharmacist or naturopath before commencing any alternative therapy. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Helpless. Take some really deep breaths and just don't light that next cigarette. N.O.P.E. Not one puff ever is how we quit smoking. I never made it more than a few hours quit before this time. I just didn't light that next cigarette no matter what happened. Even when things got really tough, I refused to give in. You can do it too. Today I am smokefree and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. You can do this! Take one step at a time. Don't smoke, one cigarette at a time. Resist the temptation. For the fourth day you are doing great. Most of the nicotine is gone now and you should be getting more comfortable. I found that I was light headed for about a week after I quit. Meditation could help you to relax, and it is not hard. It does take some time though. I have tried it and sometimes it helps. But I don't relax easily or find a comfortable position quickly. So mostly I just take nice deep breaths and think good thoughts. Anyway, drink lots of water and juices. The juices help to keep your blood sugar up. It also helps keep you full so that you don't overeat. And adding exercise is always an option. TS - you might try some chamomile tea...that is relaxing at night. I'm not sure about "natural" alternatives to zyban. I tried sam-e, but it made me more hyper and St. Johns Wort did nothing at all. You might want to just stick to what your doctor gave you for now. Sometimes those take a few weeks to kick in. Rusty :)

Hi TSURB, someone I know was having lightheadedness and dizziness. The doc told him to watch his sodium. So I'm passing it along to you, thinking that it could increase your bp/hr. But some deep relaxation might also be helpful to you. TSURB and Helpless, be sure to use the quit program tools over on the left. They will help you focus your efforts. T - good on you for 4 big days. That is a very big step. Are you feeling calmer now? Sometimes it takes a few days to get past the heebie-jeebies. Be sure to watch your sodium intake. That, plus too much caffeine, can affect your blood pressure and heart rate. helpless - let us know how we can HELP you! Helpless, You have received lots of good advice! Take what you need and hold it close. Make sure you introduce yourself in the Introductory Forum and let us properly welcome you :) You can make a list of coping mechanisms such as candy, gum, chew sticks and even veggies. Also make a list of activities that you want to do and some chores will help distract you when the big craves hit. Post often and let us help :) Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
