does"site" ever make you want to smoke?

for 18 år siden 0 3131 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi, that's why, when I see a title that might mean someone smoked, I don't read it because it really pushes my buttons. So I choose what I read,I don't read posts of people thinking of stopping, or relapsing, because I can't help just yet and it makes me feel awful. Coreen, I am so glad you posted this. I love the advice and support from here also,But YES some days reading about smoking or quitting smoking kinda helps remind me how much I miss it, And have often wondered if the reason I do better on weekends,Is because I dont have time come here. On other days I just need to know other people are going through the same thing as me,And it helps very much to be here. I think it is a good idea to take breaks from the site,as previously suggested. You know what---you are right to an extent. This site has helped me more than anything, however, I compare the association with this site and the crave to when I did smoke. My example---when I smoked, every time I thought about quitting or even cutting down, I INCREASED my smoking. Also, when I smoked, if I went somewhere where smoking was prohibited, when I was able to smoke again I made up for the ones I missed, plus some! It's all in your mind.............. :eg: Nicodemon hard at work!!!

During the first 30 days of my quit this site was very helpful by providing me much needed information and experience from other quitters. During my second set of 30 days it seemed like posting here caused me to 'think' about the subject of smoking more than I would if I were not on the computer posting. I realized it was time for me to start moving in a different direction. I don't feel like talking about quitting all the time anymore now. I'm quit. I don't want to smoke. I'm a non-smoker. I'm happy. Coreen, Good point Angel, which is why I posed the question to you Coreeen. It can be very hard for a new quitter to see others smoking or hear about it and as you can see you're not alone in feeling this way. Is it possible you still associate comfort and good memories with your old habit? Could that be the root of your frustration when your here? My suggestion to you is to try and start breaking this association. Focus on the benefits you're gaining from your quit, make a list if it helps. Find something that to replace smoking with, something that is better and you love much more than smoking. You could also do some research and find the most digusting smoking related pictures and facts out there. Many members have found it helpful to do this as it strengthened their resolve and help start to change their "junkie thinking". As members suggested, you can also take a break. The choice is yours. Correen, When you see the word smoking or cigarette appear on your computer screen what thought or image pops into your mind? Is it a negative image/thought of smoking or an old memory? Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Talking about not smoking THIS much can be hard for a new quitter. I got really tired of thinking about it so much, but talking about it also made me face things HEAD ON - and I needed to face it and KICK IT out of my life. So I guess you have to take the good with the bad. That's interesting. When I was near where you are it WAS very difficult for me NOT to internalize the struggles of others. But, it really helped me to have someone to talk to. I needed to talk about it a lot right before and right after I quit. On the other hand, my mother, who quit smoking a few years back after smoking for over 40 years, has said she never liked talking about quitting smoking. She said it made it harder for her to talk about it. My husband, who also quit, not only never talked about it...He never complained about it or even acted like it was hard! He must have different DNA than the rest of us. I think we all experience it to some degree, Correen. Some more so than others. Personally, over the 15 months I've been here I've occasionally had to take breaks of a few days from the site just to "re-center" myself. If you do feel it is getting to you then skip a day and see how you react. You can always come back. :) Keep up the good quit, Correen.
