My memories of me smoking have not dissappeared. It is my life. I smoked. I'm not going to just forget I smoked overnight. But since I know that my memories/triggers do mean I do not have to crave a cigarette, it helps. I don't want to smoke no matter what memory pops into my head. And if I ever do, I know that I can come here and post until the crave passes or find some other means of support. I haven't craved for a cigarette since about my third or fourth week quit. Do I still have memories of me smoking? Yes. And when a memory pops into my mind, it is auto-reaction for me to get busy making a non smoking memory on top of that smoking memory so that I can weaken the link. When are you going to quit having smoking thoughts/memories? When are you going to quit wanting/craving a cigarette? I don't know. We are all different. And we all attack our quits differently. Just get busy doing something that is going to help you in your life and in your quit. You'll be accomplishing something and making yourself feel good in the process. Auctionman... do not think of your quit in terms of forever. This concept is way too much to handle at this stage of your quit. It does get easier but early in the quit most of us just have to go on blind faith and believe those that went ahead of us. Know that every day you make it through with out smoking takes you closer to never feeling this way again. Also know that if you smoke, you begin the process all over again. As long as you don't light that next cigarette, you have got it made. Take some deep breaths, drink a lot of ice water and take it five minutes at a time. Remember N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever) that is how we all quit. As long as you don't light that next cigarette you have got it made. Kick, scream, cry, break dishes, punch a pillow, whatever it takes, just don't smoke and you will be amazed at the changes that will occur in your life. Trust me when I say it is worth everything you are feeling now. Hang on tight.
