Welcome to the site and congratulations on your quit. It does get better but it takes time. Keep taking those deep breaths and remember to drink a lot of water. It is a rough ride but the quit is worth it. Hang in there. Andrew, Oh, I hear your frustrations!!! I remember when I quit, I thought that every piece of machinery in that place, including the printer, the copy machine, my computer and the fax machine all had it in for me... I thought that they'd all ganged up on me because I'd quit! Well, I'm glad to hear that you're still smoke free. Things should start getting easier for you soon. The nicotine is almost out of your body, unless you are on NRTs. Either way, the first 3 days are some of the worst, so you should be past that now. Just hang on! Crave the Quit! Hi Andrew, Keep it up! If you can go 2 days, you can go 3. If you can go 3, you can go 4, etc. etc. All of us have made the decision to quit smoking because it is a killer; not to mention all the other negative aspects of it. Remind yourselve why you are quitting. We are bigger than the nicodevil. Be proud of those 2 days! One day at a time. Hi, Andrew. Congratulations on 3 smoke-free days and welcome to the SSC. If you haven't done so, I strongly encourage you to work through this site's Online Quit Program. There is a ton of useful information and tips to help this whole process go easier. Things will get better, eventually. But you spent years smoking, you can't expect full recovery in a few days. The first week is called hell week and you're finding out why. The next week is heck week. It's sort of like hell week, but not as bad. Unless you're using an NRT, you are pretty close to being through the detox phase where the nicotine is being flushed out of your body. Drink lots of water (many say ice water is the best), continue breathing deep, chewing on plastic straws helps give your mouth something to do, distract yourself (but not by smashing printers), and remember N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever Stay close, Andrew. Read much, post often, let us know how you're doing and if you need help. You can do this.
