Dear chickstarr,
I know exactly the way you feel. My hubby and I quit together, but he only lasted 3 weeks. At first, I didn't realize what he was doing, as he still said he was quit too. But one here, and one there......... He bought a box of cloves, and made himself believe that it was not smoking. Then he went to small cigars. He is now fully inhaling the cigars. He doesn't say he is quit anymore, but he also does not believe he is back to where he started.
I find it very difficult to be kind to his addiction. For some reason, it bothers me so much. I walk around the house with a air freshner and spray it all over after he has come inside from smoking in the garage. His ashtray odor is sickening.........
I do not tell him how it bothers me though. I'm sure he is not happy with himself, and it is not right for me to nag him.
They will quit on their own terms. I know that I will be his role model for quitting again. Just to show him that it can be done, and it doesn't have to be all that painful.......... I keep the positive side and outlook of my quit verbal. Making sure he hears how wonderful I feel.
Anyhow, this is thread I posted when I realized he was a smoker again. Betrayed
I don't know what else to say, except do not let his smoking be an excuse for you to do it. Own up to your own quit. Believe in your quit. Stand strong, and let him see you shine. He will quit on his own time.
