How many times have you "quit"

for 18 år siden 0 481 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have quit so many times over the years I can't even count. I think quit smoking has been my new years resolution every year for 35 years. New Years day is a horrible dreaded holiday for me because of that. Also, i smoked 3 cartons between christmas and new years getting ready for New Years. I can't wait to see how christmas and new years are when I am already quit for 6 months! What will my new years resolution be now, I already quit and already lost all the weight and already have a excersize program and everything. Anyways, I have tryed everything, but not getting support online. That may be one of the things that makes a difference. The other thing that is different this time is that all my family is quitting with me, and also my mom being diagnosed with COPD. So yes, I think this is the final one, but it sure doesn't feel any easier because of it. I also have never tryed the wellbutrin, but I don't know how you tell if it's working. I have tried several times in the past couple years and each time I have learned something different about myself and what I really need to do. I can think about those as failures, I can kick myself for not accomplishing that goal then, Or I can learn from those attempts and use the past as a tool to not let the same down falls happen again. Lets face it folks this Habit is a very difficult one to break. The ultimate goal here is to become and live a life not dependent on cigarettes. Which involves at least for me. An entire life style change. I am taking this one day and sometimes one moment at a time. The only person I could let down is me. This is MY quit and I am in control of it. Using this website as support is one of many steps in accomplishing this goal. Like Shevie, I made numerous attempts at quitting that were not whole-hearted... but this attempt is my third and my last ....!!! The first time, I quit for about 1 month. My ex-fiance was a total jerk and locked me out of the house when I went to a party at a friends house w/out him. I had begged him to go before I left, but he refused. He then told me I could not go w/out him. Needless to say, I did. I got home after about an hour and he had locked me out of the house! I bought a pack of cigs and told the clerk that I only wanted one. I took one and left the rest of the pack. I smoked that one but ended up going back and buying more. The second time, I quit for almost 2 months. The guy I loved (unrequited love) used to smoke and took me to the airport (I had to travel to another state for a week for work). On the way, he picked a fight with me about something really stupid (I don't even remember what) and then accused me of being the reason why he was completely miserable. He dropped me off at the airport and did not say goodbye. He did not even let me shut the door. He drove off and left me standing there with my bags and a broken heart. I cried on the plane for about 4 hours. I got off the plane, rented a car with a coworked to drive to the location and bought a pack of cigs. I told my coworker not to whine about me smoking in the car or I would kick him out. I smoked til my lungs burst. lol That was about 2 years ago. I quit almost 60 days ago and my BF is great.... (different guy) and even if he weren't, I would not smoke. Smoking did not make it better either time and it wouldn't a third time.... So, here I am, feeling great about quitting. Coreen, The key is not to look at those cigs and that case as treasures, it is to see them for what they are, a fancy way to end your own life and enslave you for the life you have left. Let go of the thinking that cigs make you brave or strong or complete. See cigs for what they are, a way to deliver disease into your body, the only body you have, the only place that can house your soul in this life. Let go. Hello everyone, Learning to quit, is indeed just that, a learning experience. Everytime you relapse or slip you are given the opportunity to go back and take a look at where you went wrong. Lashes, Go to search messages, left of your screen, above the forums, type in your username and all the threads you posted in should appear. Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

This is definitely my first try at wanting to quit. Sure I've "paused" on the smoking when I was in my third trimester of pregnancy (the last time) but first in actually wanting to quit. I wouldn't change it for the world now that I'm 33 days into it and I definitely dont regret putting that last cig down. I may have cravings now and then but not to the point of ever having to endure that first week! This year, for the first time, I decided to quit. Don't really know what prompted this - but I'd just had enough of smoking after 30+ years. This conviction not to smoke seems to get stronger through the passing of time Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 147 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,415 Amount Saved: 1102.5 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 12 Mins: 58 Seconds: 15
