I used to force myself to go the gym twice a week. Now I go almost every day. Aquafit, biking, walking - it doesn't really matter what - it seems to really help. I just started back to Yoga too.
I have always done my smoking at the end of the day so I am taking the time to enjoy the mornings. I get up earlier, get jobs done and then, if I feel like it, I wrap myself up in a blanket at nite and watch t.v.
However, ANY distraction helps - going out to smoke-free restaurant instead of eating in, going to a ball game.
I still need to work on the IMMEDIATE stress-reducers (for those moments when I feel like I might burst) I've been trying the deep breathing and it seems to help so I think I'll keep it up.
This is a good threat - I can use all the ideas that I can get.

I sit back and play some poker, relax, drink some grape juice. The past two days, I've been congratulating myself on a job well done. When a stressful situation happens, and I'm caught in the middle of it; I step back and rationalize. Monday I'm going to start weight lifting, and I hope to get my bike back from the in-laws and ride around the lake next door a couple nights a week.

I'm walking, doing Tai Chi, and a stress reduction training type thing, that's offered through one of the hospitals, for ex-smokers.

You know, I'm now starting to notice the little things I do, things that I've been doing all a long, but attached little importance to. For instance, after my quit smoking group tonight, someone offered me a ride home. I declined, because riding the bus while listening to the music on my MP3 player is relaxing to me. Whereas when I drive or when I'm a passenger, I can't really pay attention to the music the way I'd like to. The music is a reward. And being able to blast it is awesome.

Currently, I'm choosing between Tai Chi, Yoga, and some kind of mindful imagery. Anyone doing one of these or any others?

I do nothing for stress, I feel calm and happy. I feel more happy when I'm outside in the fresh air. I walk a lot and smell the woods and the grass and all. No stress for me. I love to be outside.
