A question for the older (or more long term) members

I thought i had posted a response to this... sorry. I asked the question as I had quit so many times, and then would do it all over again. I wondered if I was common in that. Your answers are really helpful. The 3s thing is interesting as i have lost quits at 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months. Now that i know that this is a problem for a lot of people, I will look out for it, and it wont beat me, no way. Your responses did help me. I hope you didnt think I was judging anyone Josie. I work with homeless people many of whom are addicted and on programmes and scripts. I would never judge anyone. Mad thing is, that they can give up crack cocaine,or heroin. When I say I am quitting smoking, its usually a raised eyebrow, and an 'are you mad' comment? they say, there is no way I could do that........ When I first came here last Monday, there were a lot of names that posted all the time. Now I dont seem to see them anymore. I dont know if this was just me - or my imagination, but the boards appeared to be heaving with posts from loads of people who quit at the same time as me. Now there just seems to be a few of us left. Its a week later, and I just wondered Over the time that you have been here, is it common for a lot of people to drop off.. and if people either disappear or state that they have failed, what stage is that most frequently? Is it more likely in the early stages or further down the line? I hope that this makes sense. I have been having probs expressing myself the last few days.

Great question. Great answers. I thank you Nik for asking as I have gotten some good info and inspiration from reading this thread. And I agree with cybrduke:
Hang in there Niks - I know you're going to win.
I know you are going to win as well. Hi Niks, There are a lot of us 100+ days (never mind the Year+ boys and girls). This site is a wonderful aid to maintaining your Quit - keep reading and posting. People do fail, n% of people succeed and n% fail as well. I know which club I want to be a member of! Take care Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 126 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,795 Amount Saved: 945 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 2 Mins: 9 Seconds: 18

Hey niks, I think you'll find that everyone finds a point where they are comfortable either leaving or not checking in as much with the SSC. The majority of these good people have truely kept the quit. They are strong enough to make it on there own. After saying all of that, there has been some that have perhaps left too early and went back to smoking. And then there are the ones that have quit for a long time and post here often. They are the glue that keeps this SSC so strong. They are the people that bridge each generation of quitters. Through there efforts, they have made many many people non-smokers. As for failing... the evil Nicodemon can overcome you anytime. It's just easier to overcome it later on in the quit through training ourselves to be non-smokers. Hope this helps... N.O.P.E. Nics, As you continue your quit and coming here, you end up seeing many familiar "faces". They become your group and sometimes it consists of only a few folks that you started with. There is often a group built around the month you quit. We were the nights of the empty ashtray ;-). If they don't have a group for your month, you can start one to help keep a connection with people who started the same time that you did. I still get excited when I see folks with a quit date similar to mine. You'll often reunite with people who quit the same time that you did when you make it to the beach, or the cruise ship. If you meet the milestones around the same time, you'll often see the names of the folks that you started with when you enter those special groups.
