Hi Doodlebug I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I wonder if this is mild depression because of the mourning of the stinky habit and it hits us at different times. Have you been rewarding yourself sometimes as we go further in our quit, we forget to do that? I'd like to suggest a book by Dr. Burns called 'The Feeling Good Handbook'. It is a self help book. It is an enjoyable read and has a workbook within it that gets you active in separating irrational from rational thinking. What/How we think has A LOT to do with how we feel. Check it out at the library. If you think it will help you after you've read some of it, buy a copy. Doodlebug, Your rewards will help give you something to work towards. You deserve a reward for all the hard work your putting into your quit! It should have three components: you should have a small reward for each craving you overcome, a medium reward for each smoke free day you accomplish and a large one for each smoke free week. thanks BF - will definately let u know how the book goes, I tried to find it today but no luck, going to order it in. Danielle, thanks for the advice, I definately havent been rewarding myself enuff. just getting too caught up in the poor me I've dont like the way I am turning out thing...today I feel sad again, I'm sure it'll pass though. Gotta keep reading and sooner or later I'll snap into happy mode again. cant post too much at the moment because I feel its all so negative and I dont want to reinforce how I feel. When I'm happier I will be posting lots more but thanks for all the advice. x

Hi all I should be feeling great by now shouldnt I? instead I feel anxiety most days and now to join the party is what i think is mild depression. I;m not handling my emotions very well at all. I am quick to anger and have a feeling of sadness lingering around. Been like this for a month now? My parnter told me yesterday that i'm no fun anymore...great, my worst nightmare...i have in the past got this "doormat"feeling on previous quits. I keep trying to stay positive but end up snapping at people, I've lost my zest for life at the moment. sorry about the winge, I didint want to post this at all but I cant talk to anybody else about it. I would go to the doctors for antidepressents for a while but I'm tring to fall pregnant and dont know the implications of taking them but obviously wouildnt be a good mix. could this be a chemical imbalance or is this normal? Thanks Luna. I am happy now...feel like a psycho today. Angry one minute, anxious the next, then depressed, then happy...craziness. although I do feel better just hearing that this is normal and that not everybody gets over hell week and its mostily up from then on. I dont want to smoke I'm just sick of the mood swings, really pushing my buttons. Thanks for your story, it really helps to read stuff doesnt it? Marie - you know you're right I havent really rewarded myself since I started. I'm gunna plan something soon. thanks everybody.

doodlebug... I experienced a lot of depression with my quit and cried a river of tears. You are perfectly normal. I did go to a counselor a few times and I did take antidepressants so consulting with your doctor isn't a bad idea. What I found is that once the crutch (cigarette) was removed I was left to deal with raw emotions on my own. This was very difficult for me. I had to keep trying different things until I finally found what worked for me. You just have to get through the tough times and hang on to the good days. I spent many days in the pity pot. I even spent a few days just staying in bed and hiding from the world. Some times we just need to cry. Other times we need to get out of the funk, fill our minds with some positive thinking and go find something that will make us feel better. Laughter is good medicine as well. You will learn to deal with your emotions without the crutch. Just keep taking one step at a time. It is a process and you will develop the coping skills you need to move forward. Just don't give up on yourself no matter what happens. You are an awesome quitter and you are going to love being a non-smoker! Life gets so much better. Hang on!
