Well...I'm alot newer in my quit. Like you, I was prepared for the challenge of the "bad" emotional triggers....but when I had an "Exciting" day, it kinda kicked me in the butt too. I've been lucky that sleeping hasn't been an issue for me most of the time during my quit..but that day I was soooooo wound up, it was nuts. Thank you for posting. I think that many of us come prepared to fight the physical cravings and expecting the challenges of dealing with stress...but some of these other things hit you out of left side if you don't know about them. Congrats on using your coping skills and meeting the challenge head on! AND CONGRATS on your new college courses and your hubby's new job! Hey Thanks Guys. You know, I expected the craves around the celebratory milestones. (because in the past when we celebrated, we smoked) I don't know why I didn't think to remember that being really excited would possibly be a trigger as well. And you know it wasn't enough that this happened, but then that night I had a flippin' smoking dream where I smoked ... GRRRRRRRRR!!!! Can you believe it?! It took me waking up to realize that it was only a dream, thank goodness. It was one of those really realistic ones. I just thought to myself, wow, look at what happens when I let one of those triggers get past me and turn into a full blown crave ... it seems to make all those smoking thoughts landslide. Can you guys think of other positive emotions that could possibly be a trigger? The more we can name, the more prepared we can be. The more prepared we are the less chance of being blindsided. As many here know, life has been very difficult for my family and I during my quit. While I remained positive through a lot of life's challenges in these last 4 months, I have not had anything that I was overly excited about. Well, this week my husband starts his new job and I register for college this month. Today I went down to the college to get the paperwork rolling. I have been so excited today about all this new stuff that is happening. And feeling this much excitement was a first for me in this quit & it guess what ... it caused a trigger which I allowed to turn into a crave before I even realized what was happening. Once it turned to a crave, I was like ... WHOA! Let's back up here buddy!!!! Then I recognized it for what it was adn why it happened. It was the excitement. So I whipped out my coping skills: deep breathing, chew sugarfree gum and ate mints all day. I have been able to eliminate emotional triggers like frustration, anger, sadness because I have experienced many of these feelings over the last 4 months and I have worked through them without smoking time and time again. But who knew that a positive emotion like excitement would get to me?! LOL! Well not for long ... as I embark on this new chapter in my life ... I see many exciting days headed my way. I can't wait for the excitement trigger to pop up again ... each time I am going to squash it ... and eventually it will know better to even rear it's ugly head ... but it is going nowhere with me. Next time, if there is a next time, I don't even plan on letting it get past the trigger stage. That's right! Because now I know and now I am prepared!!! Get in tune with those triggers, be prepared, then kick their a$$!!!
