This is what I know. During my quit attempt that last 107 days, I was still thinking about smoking a lot. I would maybe go 15 minutes without thinking about it (if I was lucky). I got very tired of it and that was likely one of the reasons why I started smoking again. But since then I haven't stopped thinking about smoking. Since then, it's been thoughts about how I am going to quit again.
Cuddles quotes a good saying "It's better to quit and have the occasional desire to smoke, than to smoke and have the constant desire to stop doing it." I can attest to that!!!
When planning to quit again, I knew that I had to do whatever I had to in order to get it done. That included thinking about it every minute of everyday for a year or forever, if that's what it took. It won't be like that I know.
They are just thoughts. They can't hurt you, unless you allow them to have control of your actions. It will get better in time. I'm counting on it.
