Hey BreakingFree, I just saw this post. I have been a little self-involved today. I think it is good to be able to talk about smoking or not smoking when you feel like it. Try to get your mind on other things. Not the smoking or the not smoking, but things that you enjoy doing that you cannot do when you smoke. When you do feel like talking about smoking, come here and chat. I get frustrated because most of the people around me are non-smokers and they know I have quit smoking but they think it is not a big deal. I want to talk about how not smoking has caused a change in my behavior or given me zits or made my face look rosier or given me constipation. They do not notice. So, what I want to say is, talking about smoking is good. Thinking about it as you quit (at the start at least) is completely normal. It is not just the smoking that has changed. There are things about you that may also be changing. It is good to acknowledge those things and have people around you who understand. I also understand what you mean about obsessing about not smoking but the alternative is forgetting you are an addict and lighting up a cig. You need to remember why you quit and be aware of your body's healing process. We are here to help! Hang in there, your doing great! I know that smoking is something I think about. Not because I want to but because its what I have always thought about. The thoughts will grow less and less as time goes on...or at least that is what I have heard and must believe to keep going! OH Breaking, I remember all to well the feeling you are feeling right now. I even mentioned that even some days early in my quiet I was frustrated at SSC cause I was reading about smoking. I didn't want to hear it, see it or read about it. My cravings were not bad but the thinking about them and missing my good old buddy was very hard for me. Hang in there it does get easier and I don't think about it much any more. I still miss my buddy but I sure like the freedom alot more. Your doing great. You are almost threw HECK week. Breaking Free.. Time dear... Time. You are breaking free (as your name suggests) of an addiction that has controlled you for xx years. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen overnight. You have successfully completed Hell week and are almost finished with Heck week. Next is Blah week. Go through the motions and remember that as long as you don't smoke every day will be one day closer to never feeling this way again. The thoughts can be consuming but for me that is what it took for me to stay quit. The constant determination that I would not smoke again no matter what. Let go of the frustration and enjoy the fact that you are smoke free. This is what I know. During my quit attempt that last 107 days, I was still thinking about smoking a lot. I would maybe go 15 minutes without thinking about it (if I was lucky). I got very tired of it and that was likely one of the reasons why I started smoking again. But since then I haven't stopped thinking about smoking. Since then, it's been thoughts about how I am going to quit again. Cuddles quotes a good saying "It's better to quit and have the occasional desire to smoke, than to smoke and have the constant desire to stop doing it." I can attest to that!!! When planning to quit again, I knew that I had to do whatever I had to in order to get it done. That included thinking about it every minute of everyday for a year or forever, if that's what it took. It won't be like that I know. They are just thoughts. They can't hurt you, unless you allow them to have control of your actions. It will get better in time. I'm counting on it.
