sunflower dont take any notice!while you were thinking why did you ,you may find she was there thinking i wish i had!!!we know most smokers would rather be quit ,some dont admit it and they act with envy :eg: you may find she will ring you back and ask how you did it,and if she dont well, you have lost nothing but gained so much! chin up girl we are here for you!{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}} jan xxxxx My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Sunflower.. chin up. When I quit my mom said "Why?" Then when I would say how hard it was she would say "Just go smoke, you are being silly. Why quit now?" It kind of hurts to have someone you love say that to you. Here we are doing something that is very good for us in every way and they do not support us whatsoever and can cause us to question our reasoning. Don't pay any attention to it Sunflower. You KNOW what you are doing is good and you have every reason in the world to be proud of your accomplishment here. Non-smokers will never understand what it takes to quit and smokers cannot even think of going a few hours let a lone days without smoking. You will not find the support you need in these areas. That is why we are here. We have been there and know what you are going through. You don't have to give up your friends but lean here for your support. Don't ever doubt or second guess your decision to take back your life from the enslavement of smoking. You know you made the right choice. Hopefully your friendship will survive this. But probably for now, it will be strained and distant. Think back to all of your fear and ambivalence about quitting. Did you turn down TV programs about dangers of smoking? Did you try to change the subject when people talked about smokers? I sure did. Your friend is scared. She may be afraid of losing your friendship. Surely she is scared about her own smoking. You are a reminder to her of what she has not yet had the courage to do. She is envious, but can't show it by congratulating you. Try to pity herm rather than being hurt or angry. She is an addict, as we all are. The only difference between her and us is that she is an addict that is still smoking. She will be watching you verrrrry carefully. Hopefully, if you don't rub it in, you will some day be able to support her through the same process that you are now experiencing. Incidentally, congratulations on your quit. Forty four days is HUGE! Rejoice in your freedom. Sunflower - She is projecting. She really is not angry with you, she's angry with herself. You're doing something she's been unable to do. Don't take it on - it's not your baggage - it's hers. Let her carry it. You just stay strong and don't give in.

Smoking friends and relatives cannot help but be envious and feel betrayed. It must seem like to them that we are kicking them out of our lives as we proceed to a healthier place. It's very sad, but true. Hopefully your friend will quit some day and then see you as her role model. Sunflower, Cybrduke is right on the money. It may seem tough but if you can empathize with her, it really is kind of sad that her reaction would be so strong. Something tells me that when she is ready to quit herself she will start to ask you questions about how you did it and to get your advice. Hang tough! You know in your heart this is the BEST thing in the world and that smoking is ugly, gross and harmful. 44 Days is amazing and it just keeps getting better from there!
