I'm guessing you're in what we call the "30-day slump". Most people have a rough time around 30 days or one month. Don't know why, but it is quite predictable. For some it's actually worse than their first week. The good news is it only lasts a few days, then it's over. You won't feel this way forever. You've been quit for 32 days, Alexa. That is truly an awesome accomplishment. REWARD YOURSELF!!! Right now, today. Alexa, Ok. Well this makes more sense. So it really wasn't you that wanted to quit but you felt kind of pressured to do it? Is that a fair statement? That makes a BIG difference. You feel like something has been taken from you rather than you have given something up? Mindset is an enormous factor. Were there things about smoking that you didn't like? Are your workouts easier? You probably have more time on your hands, right? Is your sense of smell/taste better? More energy? What has your son said about your quitting? I know that is a LOT of questions but in order to change your perspective you'll need to make this quit your own. You are too far in to turn around now ;) The weight gain part is bad but it will even out. Your body has a million changes going on right now but even with a little weight it is still better than the death sticks. I know everyone says "just give it time" to every problem but it is true! You smoked for forty years I think another month of adjustments is reasonable, no? What about perfume as a reward? Maybe a new hairdo? A day at a spa? OOOOOOOH, new shoes? (Yeah, I love shoes) Get your car detailed? A piece of jewelry? Something to spoil yourself. I'm glad you are reaching out Alexa and we are here for you. If I could hug ya, I would! Alexa, Yup - you made it 33 DAYS so you are doing something VERY right! One day at a time is all it takes. Everybody is different and the cravings at 18 months are fleeting and nothing like the first two months. You said you smoked for 40 years, it's just unrealistic to think you would be "normal" after just a month. A LONG month I know but you are doing great. It's all about choice. Everyday we choose to maintain our commitments to our jobs, our families and all the things that go with them. The same is true for your quit. Are you enjoying any of the benefits from not smoking? Alexa, Great job on those 32 Days! I think a large part of the 30 day funk is losing all those little goals and reminders of how cool it is that you QUIT SMOKING. This is a huge deal and you should treat yourself like it is. In the beginning, you mark off the first week and the second and third and finally ONE MONTH. Then what? 46 days just doesn't have quite the same ring to it. When the excitement wanes is also when the rubber meets the road. This not smoking thing is more than just something you are doing, it is who you are! It's these rougher patches that cause us to dig our heels in and truly learn the harder lessons. The easy days are easy but the tough ones build us as people and offer you what you'll need to face the trials ahead. You've got what it takes and this too shall pass :) What was your 30 Day reward?
