Does Your State provide this?

WA state imposes huge cig taxes, we just passed one of the most agressive smoking bans in the country, and as of yet, I see no evidence of any stop smoking programs. In fact, there was an article in the local paper about how revenues from the cig tax were intended to help fund healthcare but so far the funds have gone, shall we say, up in smoke! A few years ago, here in Missouri, I saw some downright disgusting ads... a woman smoking where half of her body looked normal and the other half was rotted and decayed and it said, "if only you looked on the outside the way you did on the inside" or something like that and a bunch of other ads... they were everywhere... on bilboards, posters across campus (this was when I was in school the first time) and commercials on just about every station during every program... you couldn't miss them... but I haven't seen any in a long time here. And I also don't think Missouri offers any state support for people wanting to quit smoking. I wish there were more of that... hopefully there will be in the future. Crave the Quit! Arizona doesn't do much more than some rather begnin ads, usually from the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association. Very little hard hitting or locally produced stuff. I haven't done any real serious looking for local support groups, but the looking I've done in the obvious places hasn't turned up much. I just saw an ad the other day where whenver the guy inhaled, his veins became bluer and his skin became greyer...and every time he exhaled it slowly turned back to normal colour...the point of it was that as SOON as you quit, the ill-effects of smoking start to reduce. It was kinda gross to watch, but it had a good point and made me glad I don't smoke anymore... NC definitely has ads. There is a really great one of a smoker who has had cancer of the larynx and has a permanent trach...and smokes through it. Ick! There are many more.
