Acne question..

BJ, The answer is yes! With smoking you are letting in all the toxins, which in turn causes 'bad' skin. When you quit, there is not more toxins. Therefore, leaving your skin free and clear. Hope this helps, Melanie ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Ladybugg, Thanks for the "data" --- even if it is based on perceptions -- I'd certainly trust you since you've been at this for 330 Days -- wow. Will take the advice that if it persists, go back to the dr. I took a peek at the section for 1+ year quitters -- I too want to be on that island and hope to one day (actually in 348 days!) join that group! Hey, right now I'll be glad to make it to the 1-month mark, which I will definitely celebrate in stlye.

Who knew there would be so many different threaded conversations going on on this site! I can't add in anything on the acne/wrinlke conversation (I'm on day 16 and still have my wrinkles), but I was wondering about Hot Flashes. I am pretty sure I'm peri-menopausal, no hormonal level changes yet though, and I was free of the hot flashes for the last 5 months. Now they are back, and not just at night -- all day long I'm whipping off a layer of clothes! Anyone else having an onset of hot flashes with quitting? Kat, Is it hot in here? LOL... I am burning up all the time...Which is absolutely crazy because I am usually freezing...Im figuring some of it has to do with the fact that our circulation is working again...lol...Dunno about the rest of it, but it's a nice change of pace not to be shivering through the winter for once...heh heh... Keep up the good work! I've had people comment that my skin looks better too! I don't have acne, but just the tone and color is better. I don't wear make up so it's noticable. I have to think of the benefits and keep those in mind.

I had never really thought about it, but then smoking has so many bad sides. I have heard that it can decrease your immune system, so perhaps the small infections that become acne are better fought off by your immune system when it's working properly. I bet you could find something by "googling" the topic . . . everything's out there.

I, too have noticed that impurities around my chin and nose have decreased since I quit. How about we all treat us to a nice facial with all the money we are saving? I sure plan on doing this when I have achieved the 100 day mark. And since cigarettes are really very expensive here, I'll probably be able to throw in a microderm abrasion with all the money I have saved up by then. I'm with you Ladybugg and Butterfly! My skin hasn't looked this bad in years which I find odd because with the increased intake in water and tea my skin should be glowing. I've started using Proctive. Maybe that will help. I wish I was one of the lucky ones. I was on the birth control pill for many years and always had clear skin. Well i went off of it about a year and a half ago and started breaking out with acne. I have noticed since i quit smoking that the acne has been little to none. Is it possible that smoking can increase acne?? Anyone else notice this? Hi BJ, I too, have had better skin since I quit. I have gotten several comments on how smooth and even my skin looked. The other thing I noticed is drier skin on my face, possibly the old, nicotene and chemical covered skin flaking off. YEECH! That sure sounds gross, but true.lol. A friend of mine, who is a cosmetologist, told me yrs ago that under her lighted, magnified mirror at work, smokers have a brown "mask" all over their face. Oh well, beauty is ours now hey? I just wish I had quit before some of these wrinkles came to stay! Keep Strong BJ, 50 Days is in our sights! YIPEE!
